Collins gains more attention

PETAL - Jamie Collins stood on his NFL Combine numbers Friday at USM's Pro Day because he was the apple of every scout's eye at the event.

Collins, who made headlines at the NFL Combine with a record-setting 11.7 broad jump and a freakishly athletic 41-&-1/2 inch vertical jump at 250-pounds, was all smiles despite recently adding to his legend with a 44-inch vertical during a private workout at the Athlete's Performance Center in Gulf Breeze, Fla. last week.

Pro football scouts enamored by Collins watched his every move Friday, and he continued to impress. During position drills, he worked out as both a linebacker and defensive end with his hand in the dirt. He showcased his explosive abilities that have made him a high rising prospect in next month's NFL Draft.

Does this mean we will see more updated mock drafts?

Not from me. But I concur with the FO if he is chosen; we need athletic linebackers and also he is a local guy. That makes him a better choice than Jarvis, who might walk in 4 years to go to the Falcons or else could retire early.

Seriously?

Undoubtedly. :D

Lol, honestly there are so many good defensive players in this draft, I think we should seriously consider trading down and gettting another pick. I have a feeling a guy like Mingo could fall to the mid 20's... I would be happy with Mingo, and I'm starting to like this Collins guy also. My vote goes to trading down if at all possible.

Could you imagine a line backing corps. with Junior Gallette, Martez Wilson, Jamie Collins and Curtis Lofton? That is a lot of skill and athleticism to have on the field at once.

Seriously... I will not do a mock draft.

I am not sold on anybody (LB or DL) in the first round and the scouts and Payton will do their homework this draft, that much I know. If they want this guy in the first and leave Jarvis on the board then they know he is a lower risk or similar ceiling. I concur with our first round draft strategy, whoever we take.

he's talking about how you think Jarvis Jones would walk after 4 seasons and go to Falcons

After 4 seasons he is a free agent and can go anywhere he wants. He is from Georgia. Went to school in Georgia. Probably a Falcons fan. If they give him a better contract what would prevent him from going there?

In four years everybody on SR says we will be retiring Drew and will go into rebuild mode, in cap hell. What am I missing here?

The Collins pick is somebody from MS and would be a better geographical fit, and most surely already a Saints fan.

That's why Jarvis Jones initially enrolled at USC, because he was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan.
