Cowboys cut Dan Connor | ProFootballTalk

If this guy is any good, he will be a Saint. Ex-Cowboy, Rob Ryan.. Need I say more? I would say the chances of us bringing him in are very good. He would immediately be an upgrade over Shanle and Herring.. He would possibly push Chamberlain & Hawthorne for a job also as an ILB.

I usually don't like to create threads about "hey let's sign this guy" or whatever.. But this guy is probably exactly the kind of guy we will get.

And why exactly is that?

Seems like all we have is inside linebackers

Lofton and Hawthorne are the only 2 locks on the roster as ILB's. Herring is not an ILB and neither is Shanle. Connor would be solid depth, he knows Ryan's defense, and he is a true ILB. Its up to Ryan of course. If he likes Connor, then you better believe he will be a Saint. He's a perfect fit really.

Would be a good move to pick him up. Looks like we are sticking with Hawthorn/Lofton/Vilma combo though.

He'd be a solid pick up for the right price. He's only 27 and has experience working in Rob Ryan's defense. FWIW I've watched him over the years since he was at Penn State. Good football player but not a dynamic athlete. Better than Shanle though.

Connor, who was due to earn a base salary of $3 million this year, previously had been given the dreaded pay-cut-or-get-out ultimatum. Since he was in the final year of his contract, the move creates at least $3 million in cap space.
So they didn't want to pay him $3 million. Thats right in our ballpark.. I will go ahead and say it right now. Dan Connor will be a Saint.

No thanks. Don't sign players from teams you dominate.

Chamerlain? nobody knows if Wilson is going to play outside yet

Signing Connor in 2013 could be kind of like signing Fujita and Shanle in 2006. He wouldn't dominate, but he would know what to do and would fill the right need at the right time.
