NFL scouts Dwaune Jones, left, and Brian Fisher, middle, react to Charles Johnson's 40-yard dash time during NFL Pro Day at Grand Valley State University Monday, March 11, 2013. Jones works for the New Orleans Saints and Fisher the Buffalo Bills.

Charles Johnson raises eyebrows with performance at NFL pro day at Grand Valley

ALLENDALE, MI – Charles Johnson still has no idea where he might go in the NFL draft, but the former Grand Valley State receiver did everything Monday to ensure it will be somewhere.

Johnson, who starred two seasons with the Lakers, was the main attraction at a pro day for 18 NCAA Division II players that attracted 20 NFL scouts at Kelly Family Sports Center.

The receiver held true to a guarantee he issued Sunday, and was clocked at 4.38 and 4.35 in the 40-yard-dash. He said he would do at least a 4.39.

Johnson also jumped 39 1/2 inches in the vertical leap, 11-foot-1 in the broad jump and had 14 reps of 225 pounds on the bench pass. He also checked in, officially, at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds.

Man... that's impressive right there. Not sure how good/bad his hands are but with those measurables and those numbers he'd be a steal if he gets out of the 3rd round.

CBS sports draft rankings or NFL draft scout don't even have him mentioned as a potential 7th rounder or UDFA.

Knowing the Saints, they were probably there scouting Tim Lelito. They have had great success finding good O-lineman at small schools. :idunno:

That's a speed guy with size for those that still aren't believers of Joe Morgan. Morgan is more than just a solid player though.

For a DII program, GVSU has been a beast for a long time. We'd play them and I don't remember it ever being close.

the raiders scout looks like a child and our guy looks young too..

all the older ones are keeping their heads down and writing feverishly it seems.....

does our guy even have a notebook, all i see are looseleaf papers

His notebook might be in his little box thing; it opens to put stuff in and doubles as a clipboard deal. Better to have the notebooks and pens in there instead of having to carry them around.

And now I look at it, the Panthers' scout has one huge nose. :hihi:

One year, 2010 or 2011, the Saints sent scouts to every single pro day that was held, they probably still do. Other teams do not. It's why we are so good with UDFA's.

that old guy with the nike hat is probably thinking 'no wonder the raiders and bills suck every year, these kids are idiots.'

Man the dude in the Panther shirt has a huge "Count Chocula" nose on him. That puppy looks like the wicked witch of the east.

LOL
