SP said LT and pass rush are the 2 things keeping him up at night also he see the LT spit as blank on the depth chart with the issue with Charles Brown being "available"

This looks like we may be seeing 2 new LTs probably an affordable and serviceable free agent and a rookie draft pick.

I would like to see something like Winston Justice and then draft Oday Aboushay in the 4th. Unless somehow Lane Johnson falls to us at 15 I don't see much chance of getting help in the first round.

This is Brees' blind side so we need someone who us at least competent.

That 2nd round pick hurts right now
Damn you Goddell!!!!!

Vollmer is still out there and hopefully can be signed to a right tackle's salary demands.

Its a little surprising Vollmer and Andre Smith are still available. I would love Vollmer too but I bet he ends up getting at least $8mil a year.

Brown would either be the starter or backup, so we will either draft that LT or sign a guy we think is capable of being the starter...Brown is talented enough to start for this team he just hasnt shown he is dependable enough.

Vollmer's back is a huge concern! He has been hindered by injuries his whole career, and when he did miss time, he was easily replaced in the line up. I am not sold on him, and I think a 1 year prove it deal around 4.5 - 5 mil is all he is gonna get. Which I would probably go after him for and look for a rookie to groom. Plus he is better suited for the right side, average at best on the left.

I would love Lane Johnson at 15, if available. But putting a rookie at LT has a certain degree of uncertainty that goes along with it as well. But I think he is our best option considering what is out there. I think if he falls out of the top 10 we need to seriously consider getting ahead of Miami who may decide to replace Long with him.

we've had a history of finding OLine gems in the later rounds. Unless Fisher or Johnson are there at 15, it won't kill us. We exactly haven't drafted HRs in the 2nd round (at least in the SP era).

They are both represented by CAA who is Long's agent. CAA was waiting on Long to sign (they would say set the market) before working on Vollmer and Smith.

We have found OLine in the middle rounds but they have not been asked to start in year 1. We shoud not go into this year with a rookie 3rd/4th/5th rounder as our plan to protect Drew.

right which is why i think we should look to FA for a stopgap and then develop a blindside protector in the draft

Didn't Jahri Evans start in his rookie year?

In interviews, Payton just gives so much more information than Loomis, who rarely says anything of value and who sounds like a hostage with a gun to his head.

We do not have the starting left tackle on the current roster. And unless one of the three highest rated left tackle falls to 15--which is unlikely--we are going to have to find a veteran for a season to play that position. Bushrod was only an average left tackle, but an average left tackle is exponentially better than a bad left tackle.

A draft possibility, though not necessarily to play left tackle in 2013: Chris Faulk of LSU. The LSU pro day is next week. It will be interesting to see how well Faulk is doing from his surgery. But he is a possibility in the third round.
