Mayock just said Austin and Patterson could both go in the 1st 15...

The reason I point this out as interesting is any player that ISENT a defensive front 7 player gets pushed down every time an unexpected player gets picked... I was hoping for QB's but that doesn't look like it will happen, maybe one...

In addition, Mel K and Todd M debating and Jones from Georgia... Mel said top 15, Todd M say late 1st then after their debate, they said he only fits in certain schemes and mentioned Saints.

Let's hope 3 receivers, 3 quarterbacks, 2 corners, a safety, two guards, and Eddie Lacey all get taken before us!
A man can dream right :)

The only recent 1st rounders that have been shockers have been our late 1st rounders, Meachem, Robinson and trading back to get Ingram. Jenkins was easily the most prognosticated pick and when Cam Jordan fell to us I knew that would be the pick. Sedrick Ellis and Reggie Bush were telegraphed picks too. If a Top DT, DE/OLB, or OT is there, that's the pick. Not a WR. JMO.

A couple of rumors that I've read up on in recent days places our #15 pick in the cross hairs of the Cowboys and Niners.

1. Cowboys want Vacarro, but so could the Rams or us.
2. Niners want Austin, but so do the Rams.

These rumors seem very plausible. Hopefully, we can leverage our pick to maximize its value.

I'm really stunned by the fact that so many seem to believe that we're set at WR. Sure, our defense stinks, but unless one of the top defenders fall to 15, no single rookie is going to turn our D around. Meanwhile, at WR, we have two injury prone 30 year old starters, and nothing but uncertainty/wishful thinking behind them. If/when Colston gets hurt, are you ready to roll out there with Morgan and Moore as the starters?

Am I saying we HAVE TO pick WR? No. But I can certainly see a scenario where by the time we're on the clock, a WR may be the best player available.

As Mayock himself said the other night regarding the Saints - we've lost Henderson, we've lost Meachem, if WR is the best player available, take the WR and "turn this thing into a track meet." Offense is what wins in this league. If we're scoring 30+ points per game, we'll win 12 games.

Was Ingram really a shocker? While Jeff Duncan was adamant we would not take Ingram, it was widely known that Payton liked Ingram.

This year reminds of 2007, and while defense makes sense, I can't help but think we will go receiver. We have not signed an X-WR to replace Henderson and we have two 30-plus WRs. Morgan is emerging but is the replacement for Meachem. Toon has talent but he's not the burner to play opposite Colston. If anything, he's an eventual replacement for Colston if he can stay healthy.

Then I look at our moves. We've added help at OLB and DE, but have lingering holes at WR and competition at LT. The Saints want Brown to be LT but not knowing whether he can stay healthy will force us either to bring in a vet or draft a LT. But if we want Brown to win that job, do we bring in a first rounder? It is possible but to me doubtful. So WR becomes more likely to me.

I think Mingo, Richardson, Ogletree, and maybe Vacarro get consideration on defense. Trufant and Rhodes might also draw consideration though the signing of Lewis reduces the CB need to the middle rounds. So I guess to me Austin and Patterson becomes a significant part of this mix. But you never know.

Add the Cryqueens as a tema that could be interested in Austin, and they have two first round picks.
Coulb be the same with the Bengals and Vaccarro, and they have two second round picks.

I know we never trade down, but this could be the year.

I know where you are coming from Guillermo, but just expressing a gut feeling.

I don't have a problem with the position, it is that the candidates are boom or bust types. I would frankly will be more comfortable picking Eifert or Ertz then Patterson or Austin. And I would be elated if we were able to get a left tackle, but that won't happen.

I still think it's either of the Georgia linebackers or Vaccaro, but in these things I am never right.

This would be so much easier if we knew how the Saint's is set up!!!
