before you come trudging in here to say kaep isn't a sophomore, i know he literally isn't, but practically he is.

The slump has more to do with going from being a nobody to a superstar over night. I live in Nashville and do sound for concerts big and small (there is a correlation, stay with me) and I have seen what meteoric rises and/or giant sums of money does to people. be it creativity or athleticism, prior to fame and fortune these people had an obsession and passion that had always kept them focused, but now there are soooo many distractions.
this is why i didn't think Newton was going to have too bad of a slump, he had a good transition...

I bet everyone surrounding Kaep (and even the tv) is telling him nothing but how amazing next season is going to be... by now he must be thinking he farts rainbows. All it will take is one bad game and some criticism for it to get in his head in a bad way.

also, every single defensive coordinator has spent the last 6 months scheming on the read option.

my 2 cents...

and if I am wrong i will come back to this thread and eat crow.

All I know is the "read option" will have a target on its back from here on out. I suppose no team will b able to shut it down completely, but there will b some who will do fairly well against it. Lets just hope we're "in that number"

The read option is only going to get more and more effective as the referees throw penalties for taking off the QB's head when he hands off the ball and fakes a run outside. All this concern about protecting marquee players is only going to make it stronger. The way to make a team stop running read option is to punish the QB, but that isnt really an option anymore.

I'm not that impressed with Kaep, but I am with the SF team, so he will still win even if he plays poorly.

Good point...I guess :aargh:

I think Kaep's downfall will be Harbough. Sean Payton has given Drew Brees freedom and yet he has refined him very much. Sean Payton loves Drew Brees and is happy when he suceeds. I've never felt like Sean was worried about getting credit. Harbough on the other hand micromanages that offense and Kaep.

Kaep comes from a good family. I know them personally. They are good people and money won't change him. I think it will come down to whether or not he could make quick decisions, have confidence, and make accurate passes. The fact of the matter is that he hasn't proven anything more than Vince Young did in his first and second year. Kaep will need to learn the offense and run it or he will be replaced by Andy Dalton.

PS. the Ravens pretty much shut down that pistol stuff.

I used to stay in Nashville! Over on the east side.

I think you're right. Replacing smith with a Disney channel celebrity was the worst choice.

My pre-pre-season bold predictions include the 9ers realize that 2 other teams in their division "have it better than them" as they finish 3rd in the NFC West and miss the playoffs.

I'm also prediction Miami to go 10-6 and win the AFC East. They finish with the same record as New England, but own the tiebreaker with divisional wins.

i disagree. he has like half as many 200+ yard games as vince young does in his career already. I think he is a legit qb. as long as he doesnt start making mistakes he will continue to be a very good player. btw he had nearly 400 yards of offense against the ravens.

Dude has a rifle arm, great speed, good offensive line, good running backs, all pro tight end, great defense. They can adjust out of the read option and be just fine.
Now, it kills me to say that, but it is the truth. They are a scary team for years to come.

i think the kid is the real deal. he'll never be a Drew Brees but he will beat some teams with his arm. i think the thought of him having a sophomore slump was dispelled in the playoffs. all teams in the playoffs had almost a full season of tape on the kid and no one could stop him completely. when you make it to the conference championship game you are no longer a 1st year starter. at that point you have enough skins on the wall to be called a veteran player. as much as we'd all like to think this kid is gonna go away, sorry to burst your bubble guys, but he's here to stay. he's smart enough not to take hits. he can throw the ball. he has a defense that can keep him within reach of any team in the NFL.

The kids is for real, and he's gonna be a real problem for his NFL opponents.

Ask Mark Sanchez that.
