On Defense -

1. Put 8 men in the box early. This will limit Deuce McAllister's effectiveness and have have Payton abandon the run. Payton shown a nasty habit of not even trying Deuce later in games if he doesn't get 5+ yards per carry early.

2. Be willing to give up a passing TD (but not rushing TD) early. Don't worry it will dividends later.....

3. Tell your defenders to swat at the ball and not worry about making a tackle if the Saints receivers catch a ball. At worst the reciever will fall down with the ball and not make any YAC. At best the Saints receiver will cough up the ball.

4. Once Payton has abandoned the run, delay blitz Brees after disguising your blitzes. Brees will hurry his throws, make mistakes, throw into coverage.

5. Treat Reggie Bush as an average third down back. Be willing to let Bush catch 5 yards passes out the backfield, he'll go down easily with arm tackles. Do not cover him with two men because that is using up valuable coverage men....

On Offense -

1. Establish the run and pass. Make sure to move the ball early. Don't let the Defense have any momentum.

2. Watch for Saints blitzers. The Saints D makes no attempt to disguise it's blitzes so have your QB point them out so they can be blocked.

3. Have your QB quickly locate Jason Craft.

4. Send your fastest receiver on a go route against Fred Thomas.

5. Do not abandon the run, later in the game the Saints D will tire, over pursue, and your back will break off big yardage.

That is just about dead on Ti.

LOL... isn't that the truth... sad but true i guess, everytime someone other then Colston toucheds the ball, i'm just waiting for it to pop out. We have a bunch of juggling bumbling stumbling clowns out there, they look great before they catch the ball, once that ball hits their hands it all changes in a quickness, and if they actually catch the ball i'm screaming at my TV GET DOWN!!!!!!! I pray Colston is back this week.

I took the liberty of seeing if you have discovered anything groundbreaking by removing all the personal identifiers (as required by HIPAA) and replacing with with identity-neutral characters.

One little quibble, I think the Saints would like to disguise their blitzes, since Gary Gibbs saw Flags of Our Fathers and how cleverly the Japanese were dug in on Iwo, but the No Fun League prohibits the use of caves. But since none of our LBs are particularly fast, they're doing what they can.

Otherwise, I have this up there with the best of Sid Gillman, Don Coryell, Bill Walsh and Mike Martz as far as offensive strategies.

Saints DB and LB do not seem to recognize passing lanes either.

I don't want to be accused of being "negative" so here are the solutions to the template (as I see them)-

On Offense (for the Saints)-

1. Just once I'd like to see Payton establish the run with McAllister getting 25 carries and Bush only in the game on third and long or when Deuce needs a rest. This would slow down the opposing Offense by eating up the clock, giving them less chance at the ball. It would also open up the playaction pass and big plays.....

2. Don't give the ball to Bush in the redzone. Pound it in with Deuce.

3. Bench any player who coughs up the ball (including and esp. Bush). Finally to keep players from swatting at the ball your receivers must be able to break arm tackles, making big YAC, forcing defenders to wrap up instead of going for the ball. Payton must find the guys on his roster that can hold onto the ball and break arm tackles whether it's Jones, Lewis, Henderson, Moore, etc.

4. Establishing Deuce on the ground would prevent D's from being in the position to blitz.

5. Payton seems overly enamored with Bush's versatility. Bush should only be in the game to spell Deuce or in third and long.

On Defense (for the Saints)-

1. Make the opposition one dimensional, force them to either run or pass but not allow them to be successful at both.

2. Disguise your blitzes, it's incredibly easy to pick up the blitz if you can see it coming presnap. Sorry but Gibbs' blitzes are extremely Venturiesque.....

3. Not much you can do about Craft with the current roster.

4. Absolutely make sure Bullocks does not bite on the pump fake or play action in order to give Thomas help deep....

5. The D must stop over pursuing but then again if the Saints D has made the opposition one dimensional then this will not be a big concern.

Interesting post Ti Rider, but considering how Bush has run the ball the last two weeks, I think that it would be counterproductive to utilize him on 3rd downs only. It's like, now that he is improving and finding a groove, we don't rush him on the first two downs? While I agree that Deuce could be more involved, I would contend that both of our stallions need a bit more rushes.

Seems like a lot of work just to say

1. Give the ball to Deuce a lot more and Bush a lot less.

2. Get better defensive players, particularly in the secondary, and get enough of them to dictate what the offense can try.

you people calling to take away bush's carries kill me. The guy finally gets it and you want to punish him. While i agree that we need to run more I do not care which of the two are getting it done so long as they are both having sucess. I will say that near the goalline (excluding tricky plays) Deuce should be the man. He has a way of falling into that endzone from 6 yards out

Don't turn over the ball and what we have is 3-0 against the AFC North is the way I see it.

To Jake and rjackson57, I would agree that Bush's running has improved over the last two weeks but even with that he's still nowhere close to Deuce's level. The Saints need to take some pressure off of Brees by establishing a consistent running game. The quickest way to do that is by giving Deuce the ball, in turn Reggie less. Despite Reggie's improvement it hasn't equaled wins.......

if you want to base it on opinion rather than fact, ok

I don't think that we are in total disagreement here. In my opinion, on Sunday Deuce should have gotten the ball more (Payton even mentions this in today's article on the front page referring to red zone). Where we disagree is taking carries away from Bush to increase Deuce's rush attempts.

On Sunday, I felt that both Bush and Deuce needed more rushes. I thought that I saw something, a rhythm, groove, where we could have been more productive on the ground.

Having said that, Payton still impresses me and I believe that he acutely aware of what he has in Bush and Deuce and the need to get those guys going.

the only problem with our Offense is turnovers. taking the ball out off your best playmakers (Bush) hands is ludacris. he is finding his way and will soon have a big game. face it guys teams have found our weakness on D, so we're pretty much going to have to out score everyone now. it doesn't matter how much time you take off the clock when a team scores in 4 plays. TOP means nothing anymore only the score matters.
