Face it, we're just gonna have to outscore people.... (1 Viewer)

Perhaps the defense said... "we need to make a play" in the 4th quarter, the offense isn't doing crap. So FT and safeties bit on some play action and pump fakes because they were trying to get a big turnover.

doubt it...he was burnt all game. and at the time of the second TD catch it was a tie game.

many on this board have been saying we should have run the ball more to take time off the clock. ... so i say whatever it takes to win you do and with the WR (Owens & Glenn, Smith & Johnson, Burress & Shockey, Bryant & Battle, Moss & Randle El)

Your logic is totally backwards.

Why we should be running the ball: Our top WRs? Horn, then Hinderson and Dropper.

We need to keep those offenses off the field as much as possible, and EVERY football analyst agrees that the way to play keep-away is with solid ball control, balance between run and pass. NOT "Let's hurry and score so they can do the same and hope we get the ball last, because clearly we cannot stop them at all."

Did the Cowboys play shootout with the Colts this past week? No, they didn't. They called 23 pass plays and 31 runs.

Go back and look at the numbers - the teams that stayed close to the Colts did so in large part because they ran the ball. Kept that Colts offense off the field. They did NOT play shootout!

Our defense is mediocre and they are terrible at creating turnovers so I'm in complete agreement. If the Saints want to get to the playoffs and advance then the offense is going to have to put up some high numbers to win games.

No!

We have to keep our defense OFF the field. How is this so hard to comprehend? Oh brother...

you have to do what it takes to win, and throwing the ball is working for us.

to the tune of 1-3 in the last 4 games

all 4 in which passing was the dominant mode of moving the ball up the field

you're blinded by the big pretty numbers we're putting up

and thinking that "hey if we do this enough, we might eke out a win"

um, no

pls revisit how this team functioned on offense in september

then compare it to now

then think about why our record was better then than it is now

Do ya'll realize that the Bengals only scored 3 points off of our turnovers on Sunday. the defense is just not that good and has been exposed. when teams need to get a first they get it. when they need a big play they get it. guess FT getting burnt 3 times falls squarely on Brees because he threw INT's huh?

Add 7 to that total TM. (Don't forget the pick for 7 pts)

Am I the only one that remember the Bengals being held to only 10 points with 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter?

Brees also passed for 500 yards

at the EXPENSE of our rushing attack. Those yards came, in large part, well before the game was out of reach. By the time the game WAS out of reach, it merely became a matter of how padded the number would become, due to the fact that we were then pressed into passing on every down instead of just doing it despite the circumstances.

uhh They got a PICK 6 on one of Brees turnovers. so that's 10 total points. And the fact that he threw two picks in the red zone which meant we wouldn't get at least 6 guaranteed points and in reality we probably would have scored a TD on at least one of them so 10 points more than likely.

That's at least a 20 point swing.

truck man owns Brees, Copper, and Henderson in fantasy football. That's the only explanation at this point.

Exactly. The defense is, by no means a strength, but they held their own. The Bengals are a potent offense and they were kept in check until the fourth. Had we cashed in on the numerous scoring opportunities, the game would have played out liked expected - a shootout.

To Truckman's point, we will have to rely on our offense to put up a lot of points. But the defense is playing to it's ability, if not a little better. They are an average defense and our above average offense needs to offset that.

Yes, you are correct. But you can't win football games coming out gunning in 5 Wide every play.

...or depending on Devery Henderson and Terrance Copper to have big days.

Devery Henderson

and

Terrance Copper.
