As much as this season has been a feel good story for the Saints and how we have responded to adversity well so far this season, I dont want us to get complacent guys. Remember 2002 and how great we felt and we were preaching playoffs as a sure thing, we failed to get the job done that year and quite frankly I was disgusted at how that season ended. I know the circumstances are far different and the players are seemingly different then that team, but damn it I dont want any excuses for this season, we have a good team, lets not screw the pooch up again. WE have a team that everyone wants to believe in, lets give them that. Lets be not a tease, we have to remain competititive and remain hungry all season long.

I hated the Falcons stealing our glory that year, they did not belong in the playoffs in 2002, they got their becuase of a technacality, not becuase they won more then we did. It cant be that way, the hell with Atlanta and the hell with Carolina.

This season if its good, then so be it, but lets not fail this time around.

Mora was good but he eventualy failed, Haslett was good but he eventually failed, lets make sure the buck stops their.

No more excuses.

You win and you get in, Payton is a good coach and he has my support, lets keep up the good work boys.

Losing sucks, I hate it, In fact I despise it, it s time we got our fair share.

Go Saints

Its solid, john. I think it has more of a slicker approach, much more design to it, Its took some effort to make this good or look good, Andrus and Dan and Lafayette do a yoemen;s job in making Sr.com good. I mean Andrus is the guy who makes Sr.com his child, his baby, he is the brains behind it all.

I think it takes courage to make a good foootball forum, but it takes pure balls to make a great football forum like Sr.com.

I like it, keep up the good work Andrus.
Sr.com has a lot of people who have interesting characters that make them all unique, TPS, Bulldawg, Saintly Bum and Saintly wife, Condor, yes even blackadder make Sr.com the reason I keep coming back, its probably the best football forum out their on the Net.

See, I was worried about the same thing. This season does seem pretty similar to 2002, but I think the difference this year is that we have Reggie Bush. I feel more confident about this team because we have played so well without Reggie playing his best ball. We have yet to see Reggie impact the game as much as he's capable of. We should see improvement in his game soon, and when he starts playing his game and producing those big plays, we will be an even tougher team to beat.

Playoffs baby.

I feel different about this team and more confident because this is a different team. I know that this is a very simple statement but this team is simply tougher, smarter and/or more disciplined, faster, better coached, more dangerous and there is more veteran leadership. I do agree with what you said about Reggie because he is due. I just am alot more confident in this team and don't really worry myself as in the past because I do not worry about beating the teams we "should" beat because I know that this team knows about being prepared for everyone. I mean I am thinking we will make the playoffs and if so we will make a splash. If none of this happens just think about how bright our future is and what we have to build on with this roster/coaching staff. Of course I am betting the house we make the playoffs if we win this game against the Ravens.

I agree that this team is tougher and has better leadership, but I don't think I can imagine a more difficult schedule than the one we have the rest of the way. We're going to have to play better than we have in the first 6 weeks. Our offense needs more big plays, and needs to perform better in the red zone. Our defense needs to start forcing turnovers. I'm sure those are things that Payton worked on during the bye week with the team. Hopfully Reggie can provide the big plays I was talking about.

Exactly. The red zone part especially, I think we are in good shape though and everything will come together soon enough. We can only get better.

That's very true. We had so many new faces coming into the season, you would think that they are still getting to know eachother as football players, and that can only bode well for the future. I've seen steady improvement each week, and hopfully that can keep going.

We've gotten off to a great start. It's going to be interesting to see how we stack up come crunch time. I'm excited.

it shoudlnt be we finally have a Great Consistent QB, i really dont see us blowing a 5-1 record and not making the playoffs we have to much talent, and besides i dont think peyton would let that happen:ezbill:

The biggest difference between 2002 and now is our defense. At the halfway point in the season. Our defense was ranked 29th in YPG and 31st in PPG at the midway point of th eseason . This is why I do not expect a repeat of 2002.

On the old site someone posted an old article from 2002 that said this. The article was about something else, but if you scrolled down it had a piece on the Saints. And this was at the midway point of the season, pointing out our deficienices that could have (and did) lead to a collapse, despite having beaten 3 playoff teams out of our first 6 wins.

Here I found it - and look at the date 11/03/2002. Alot of people could see the writing on the wall:

That year I didn't feel like we won most of those games. The other teams lost em.

This year, we are WINNING them. I feel completely different about this team this go'round. We have something else this year........................LEADERSHIP.
Where the heads goes.....................................................

The defense rests: The Saints are 6-2, tied for the NFC South lead and already have defeated five teams that went to the playoffs last season.

So what's to worry about?

Well, their defense. It's 29th overall. The Saints have allowed 209 points, the second-highest total in the NFC. None of that is postseason-worthy.

''It's a breakdown here, a breakdown there,'' Coach Jim Haslett said. ''We haven't put it all together, but I think we will.''

The Saints have surrendered 403 rushing yards and an average of 6.4 yards per carry in their past two games combined. Over the past four games, their opponents have scored 11 touchdowns in 12 trips inside the New Orleans 20. That's a 91.7% success rate.

Great find. I didn't remember our defense being so miserable, even though we were 6-2.. makes me feel a little better about our chances this year.

That article really got my memory going about that season. I can remember the games being shoot outs pretty much. Our defense was giving up over 20 points a game and the only reason we were winning was with our great offense. Ironically the best defensive performance that year came in the last game of the year against Carolina when we held them to only 10 points but lost the game anyway because our high powered offense could only get 3 points.

Our defense is not great this year, but they are at least middle of the pack right now. Add that to our good offense and there's no way I see this team collapsing like in 2002. I know we'll lose a few more games but we'll also win a lot more I think.
