LeBron and his "cramps" (1 Viewer)

Personally, I think it's garbage. I mean, isn't he hydrating? It's a three hour long game and he gets cramps often. What the heck is he doing, or not doing, that he gets these cramps so often, especially in the finals?

I don't know either honestly. I think it was just another stunt to attract more attention to himself. The Heat have to have people that graduated in sports medicine watching these guys on the sideline making sure they stay hydrated. Especially "The King"..

I thought everyone was just making fun, but do people actually believe that LeBron was faking that last night?

I think he actually had a cramp, but he exaggerated the severity of it quite a bit.

then you've never had a really, terrible cramp

you are immobilized. Some people get them like that or have gotten them, some don't/haven't. I have before and it's screaming pain and you are totally locked up.

Moving isn't a matter of will. It's a matter of impossibility.

As SaintJ put it:

One side note -- as somebody who played a lot of basketball in the heat for many years(anybody remember the old student field house at Tulane, the one with no A/C but the metal louvered shutters on one side and the four-foot fans on the opposite wall?), even if you're in shape and trying to hydrate, once you cramp up, it's not a question of "toughness", your leg just stops working. It's not a "mind over matter" thing. Don't understand the LBJ hate here.

not all "cramps" are the same

and I say this as someone not all that enamored of James

Does that mean then that you believe he was actually healthy enough to reenter the game but instead chose to remain on the sideline for the "attention" of it all?

Schlereth is talking about this right now and made the following points:

1. people saying that the cramps weren't enough to sideline him or that it was simply "mind over matter" don't know what they are talking about - it's as simple as this: they've never experienced it and have no idea what they are talking about

2. He has played games with popped tendons and other major injuries - stayed in the game and didn't have to come out. And there have been times when he's had cramps and he had to come out. I don't think anyone here would call Schlereth soft or weak.

3. When the muscles lock up they are not going to work. They simply lock up and are rendered useless and that's aside from the extreme pain. You cannot bend your legs, you can't flex them - they are locked up and you are hobbled and simply cannot do, no matter how badly you want to go back in or how strong the willpower is.

This is so true. You see players in football get cramps quite often, especially in outdoor stadiums in hot humid weather early in the season. You don't see it as often because basketball is so often played indoors. James certainly wasn't faking. Cramps are not only very real, but extremely painful. It was bad for him because the timing was terrible. Has it happened in the first half, he could have easily come back.

He actually did come out mid 4th quarter after he made a 3, sat for a bit, tried to come back and cramped back up again on his last drive to the hoop. He just didn't have enough time to get through it. I have a good deal of respect for him and while I get the joking at his expense, that shouldn't take away from how good he is.

You guys are laughable. He's the greatest athlete in the world. To move his size around at the speed and quickness that he does takes more than anyone else could ever imagine. You know nothing about what it's like to be an athlete if you think that was fake last night.
