There’s a new way to pay at a popular Norfolk restaurant.

Doumar’s is one of the first local eateries to let customers pay using Bitcoin.

Customers at the restaurant Thursday said they were surprised that one of the oldest restaurants in town is one of the first to accept the digital currency.

If you’re wondering how much a Doumar’s Barbecue sandwich costs, it’s .004569 Bitcoins.

BTC almost hit $700 last week- now it's close to $600.

Live Bitcoin Market Data

When I got into it around January, it had started that slide which started after the peak last December, and it really dropped after that MtGox debacle in late February.

But the last few weeks have been really crazy- $400's to almost $700, and now trending down.

There's a load of factors- esp. the Chinese government and their ban threats and bs regulations.

The big push lately was helped by so many major companies saying they will now accept payments in Bitcoin- Expedia, Dish Network, etc., and the eBay/PayPal CEO saying that he is a supporter/owner of Bitcoin and that Bitcoin would be integrated into the eBay/PayPal network "soon".

If you want to be very clear, investing is gambling.

No it isn't. There are very safe ways to invest. Companies like GM, Bear Stears, Wamu, Worldcom and many others that are simply too big to fail and will always give long returns.

The only people investing isn't a gamble to is politicians.

I recently watched the Rise of Bitcoin documentary. And in this whole currency spasm from Brexit, I have been thinking about Bitcoin a lot.

It is fascinating and terrifying and beautiful and unsettling all at the same time.
