So last year the saints started off hot and then lost some momentum as we started losing on the road starting with seattle, then the rams and panthers. it cost us the division title. then i thought we got over that hurtle going into the eagles and even after throwing 2 picks we managed to run out the clock and win by 2. of course we lost to the eventual superbowl champs @ seattle so i didnt dwell on that game too much. so thinking we got over the issue of away games and what was suppose to be an improved 2014 roster i naturally had really high expectations. so now were 2-3 only wins have been in the dome. we lost one division rivalry won another. our entire division lost on our bye week, im counting the tie with the panthers a loss. our division is still wide open for anyone to string some wins together and take the lead! but it starts with saints ending this streak and beating the lions @ there own stadium. im wondering if we can. if saints go 8-8 and all 8 wins are in the dome, so what? playoff contenders and superbowl champions strike fear into teams that hosts them. we CAN beat them , there offense is just some saints wana be minus a perfect megatron. but how about their D? they have been good enough so far. i wana WRECK THEM. i want 40 points on the road. i want the 2006 @ the cowboys kinda game. i want people to go "oh crap the saints are coming to town how do we stop them?".
anyways these are my thoughts coming into the game. predictions ?

Offensively: As long as Sean Payton calls a "balanced" game and not be to pass happy like he tends to do on road games we have a chance of beating the Lions in their stadium. Our run game is key for success this season. It will open up play action, the long ball and screens.

WRs need to get open and make the catch! Also, when we take a deep shot down the field it needs to be with Brandin Cooks not Meachem.

Defensively: our D-line needs pressure, tackle better and get the Lions off the field during 3rd downs. Don't focus on stripping the ball just focus on tackling the ball carrier.

*** Communication is vital for our defense! "Speak-up, Man-up & Wrap-up! Lets go Saints!

Special Teams: just run their lanes and tackle on kickoffs & punts. Watch for onside kicks and fake punts.

*** we control the line of scrimmage with our run game; we control the tempo pound & ground.

In-game adjustments both Offense/Defense & Play-calling have to be solid.

Run the ball...Run the ball & then Run the ball. We have 3 solid backs that can "run the ball" no excuses!

just throwing some guess out there
i wonder if SP feels it's easier to pass block with crowd noise than to run block?

my guess is the passes go to Meach when he's not bracketed
i would bet that Cooks gets doubled when he goes on a route more than 10 yds??

hard to argue with any of that^

Why do people continue to hammer Meach? The guy has had his guy beat on every deep ball thrown his way. People keep calling for cooks to get the deep ball but sorry a 5'9 small receiver trying to stop and comeback for an under thrown pass will not have a different outcome....

I just hope Drew worked on his deep ball effectiveness with every capable receiver when he could during this time off. The results of trying to hit a big play to me fall all on him and it's looked awful.

100% correct!! Well said!

Until the #2 cornerback problem is solved, all the talk about the offense is peripheral. When I saw the schedule initially, I penciled this one as a loss. Now, I'm not so sure, if Megatron doesn't play. The Saints may be able to hold off the remaining receivers under these circumstances. That's the value of spreading the ball around, as the Saints do. If you lose a weapon like Jimmy Graham, there are alternatives. Also, the Saints' running game is much, much better than anticipated, even without Mark Ingram. The Saints have a good chance of pulling this one out IMHO.

We need to stop making substitutions every single play. It really bothers me that Payton keeps making this mistake after what happened last year. Run more no huddle plays.

You should know by now that every time someone claims 40 burger or anything close 40 points ...it NEVER happens!!!!!!!

Saints 31, Lions 28... Brees 30/38 326 yds 2 TDs... PT carries 12/82 yds, catches 5/54 yds, TD... Josh Hill 7/73 yds, TD... Robinson 16/52 yds, TD

This. Football is a lot simpler than people make it out to be. The key ingredient is execution. Run when they think we are going to pass and pass when they are gearing up to stop the run. Matt Stafford is awful when heavily pressured.

The idea that we need to transform into a running team for every road game is a load of crap.
