Who makes the BEST King Cake?? (2 Viewers)

Dad said that's the best king cake he's ever had. Then, he told me he was going to ask Alon to marry him.

At work, there was some disagreement as to whether it actually qualifies as a king cake (I say yes), but regardless, it's damn good.

Is sucre any good?

I am not a fan, but people seem to like them. This is what I said about it last year:

I picked up a Sucre King Cake on Twelth Night. It was good, but not great. It was flaky, yet soft, but overall I think it was just too buttery for my taste. It was more like a sweet crossaint or a soft brioche. I would have liked if it had a bit more cream cheese filling, too. It really only had a thin line and some pieces barely had a trace of it. It was a nice change and certainly better than some king cakes I've had, but I still prefer Randazzo's style king cakes.

Just tried Meches Bavarian Cream Kingcake and geeze is this thing good. I can't stop eating it.

Shall we? It's that time again, I've ordered from Haydel, Randazzo (and the ex wife ), Meche. Who else should I try? Thinking Sucre.

Sucre is best but you have to eat them soon. There was a recipe floating around to make a Sucre cake at home. It comes out great.

Try sucre for sure.
Different.

I like it a lot. I like a lot of their stuff.

Ugh I've been very tempted to buy a king cake already, but I'm trying to hold off because I know it will cause an avalanche of king cakes at work. But damn am I craving one.

I've said this before, but I am not a fan of Sucre king cakes at all. I've been craving a Randazzo's one, but I'm looking forward to trying some new ones this year. I hear that Chez Pierre in Kenner makes a good one, has anyone tried it? I've tried to get one from them before, but their hours haven't allowed it.

I've probably mentioned this earlier in the thread, but there is a little Latin grocery on Bienville (about a block off of Broad) called Norma's bakery that makes a killer guava king cake. I need to get one of those ASAP.

you have and i tried it out and came back with a resounding endorsement
the guava king cake is killer

also, if y'all are going they have several different meat pie, sweet pie type things in the back
good hot lunches
and very good produce

essentially it's behind the MTA/Warren Easton on Bienville

I now officially hate all of you. I moved to Houston for work after Mardi Gras this past year, and now I'm on the hunt for a king cake. There isn't anything even close to good out here from what I'm finding searching the net. I'll be back in the area in a few weeks, guess I'm going to have to wait it out.
