I just heard that the Saints now own the second best conference record in the NFC.

Would we be a higher playoff seed than Dallas if the regular season ended today?

Yeah... I know that ultimately if we beat Dallas, New York, and Carolina we write our post season ticket.

But it all starts with the 49ers at the Dome next Sunday!

As it stands right now, the Cowbrats seem like our biggest obstacle to getting a Week 1 BYE in the playoffs.

This Saints team is starting to get me deliriously excited! :sbob:

Yes, we would be #2 in the NFC because of better conference record.

man those 49ers really scare me.....maybe it's a flashback to the Montana/Rice days but they are running the ball well and playing pretty good defense. Alex Smith isn't as bad as I thought he was.

We must bring our A-game and our VOICES next week.....make it hard on this young team to make adjustments.....make them burn timeouts early in the 3rd quarter so they don't have them later.....

Lets do it folks.....make that dome ROCK!!

You're absolutely correct, Bill - Win out, and it's a done deal. As we all know, that's much easier said than done for any team in the NFL.

The reason the conference record is so important is because we are in a different division than the Cowboys... And if our records are tied at the end of the season (and we didn't play each other - which we do), then conference records would be the first tie breaker.

Really a mute point since the head-to-head will decide the second bye if we have the same record as the Cowboys after week 17.

Note: if we were in the same division as them, then the division record would supersede the conf record, but not the head-to-head record... hope that makes sense?

Obviously, every game is important since the last 5 are NFC games. We help ourselves alot with a win Sunday and splitting the last 4. The 49ers are not pushover. This team is playing well. Had it not been for a miracle comeback today this game could be for seeding in the playoffs.

It seems to be the biggest games will be the Giants and Cowboys. Heck, they are all important. We could beat on the teams or lose to all of them. That is how the NFL works.

3-2 the rest of the way and we are in. 2-3 and it gets murky.

That is correct. To break seeding (sp?) ties, the wildcard tiebreaker system is used:

2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
Two Clubs:
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory.
5. Strength of schedule.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.
