While I understand the disapproval of the language, guns are absolutely "toys" in the American Culture. People enjoy shooting, and some people do so competitively. His new gun is just as much a "toy" as a new side by side, or 500 horsepower project car. Any of these "toys" can kill if used improperly.
The only difference is that this "toy" is designed to be deadly.
So while I can appreciate the grumbles about the language, I can look past it and given Semper's background and training, I am comfortable saying he is likely a responsible gun owner.
I also teach handgun course, conceal carry courses and I run a gun store and indoor shooting range!Congrats on doing your part to encourage the manufacture of more guns.
Congrats on doing your part to encourage the manufacture of more guns.
Congratulations on your Hoplophobia, I hope it serves you well.
I was in the Army and like to hunt.
Just because I don't have a gun fettish doesn't mean I'm afraid of them.
Every illegally purchased gun started out as a legally manufactured gun.
Buying guns as "toys" encourages the manufacture of excess guns, many of which end up in the hands of criminals.
Hoplophobia... my new favorite word. 5:46am and I have already learned something new. Thank you Saint77.

So are you telling me I shouldn't purchase any other style or type of weapon because it will encourage more manufacture? as if I am somehow reasonable or culpable for how some one else uses an ill gotten firearm?
I dont have a "fettish" for guns, and i suspect Semper does not either. some of us view firearm ownership and collection as a hobby. they are tools, and weapons both. intricate machinery style tools, and weapons. some collect knives, some collect other historical non firearm weaponry, others like firearms. to us, in this context. calling one a new "toy" is completely acceptable. How is this to be construed as a fettish? why is it you folks on the anti gun side see no grey areas? either we have a fettish, or we dont? nothing in between?
If I am at a wedding I need something small like my Sig P938.
I am saying that we have a problem in the United States. There are too many firearms.
Every illegally purchased gun was manufactured legally. Every gun used in a crime was manufactured legally. Every illegally purcahsed gun used in a crime was sold legally the first time it was sold.
I am not anti gun. I just think that 300 million guns is too many. I don't think we need any more.
I think that you are an example of people who have a perverted view of the second amendment. I think that people like you are a victim of the NRA's shilling for gun manufacturers.
Antique guns are an entirely different matter, but there isn't any reason to have more than one or two firearms for protection. Any more than that and you are just making your family more susceptible to being harmed by a firearm.
I think that you have a constitutional right to have as many guns as you want, i also think that you and others who have a perverted view of that right are one part of a larger problem.
Your assumptions about my families safety due to more arms in the house is speculation.
Theres plenty of reason to have more then 2, or even three. You should do your research on the various techniques of dress and conceal carry. No one gun fits all weather situations, or social situation.
I dont have a perverted view of anything. I have a clear view now, that ive experienced firearm violence firsthand, and had to save my own wife's life from a gunshot wound. I had my head up my *** courtesy of a very liberal democrat family who hated and feared firearms, and instilled that irrational fear in me in the first half of my life. I add my experiences together with a logical grasp of the 2A, and im sleep fine at night.
My firearms experience has 0 to do with the NRA. I am not a member, nor do I typically ascribe to their advice. If any, I prefer the GOA, they get more done then you might expect. and frankly, I dont have as much of a problem with the NRA as you might. some one has to counter the idiocy and stupidity of people like Micheal Bloomberg and organizations such as the Brady Campaign.
