After Thursday's game against the Patriots a lot of the talk was about the turnovers, Michael Thomas and the play of the Defense. One thing that hasn't been touched on much in my opinion is the lack of solidification at the Guard position. From what I hear Peat is an enigma while Kelemete and Lelito have questions of their own. We all know Brees needs solid Guard play to create a clean pocket to step up in and he's not getting any younger. If there is anything that can disrupt the Saints offense it's Drew Brees getting hit cleanly every time he goes back to pass. Payton is no fool and is aware of this thus the continued rumor of the Saints trying to trade for the Cowboys Ronald Leary. Question is what would you be comfortable giving up for him and if that's not an option what would you do?

If it were me, I would give up a late round pick.

However my gut tells me they are not going to do anything about it, and pretend that what we saw was just the typical "it's just preseason" talk.

IMO the Saints will just have to go forward with the hand they've been dealt. Find the best 5 O-Lineman all ready on the team. I wouldn't trade anything for Leary. He's not better than either Kelemete or Lelito. I watched him in the Cowboys preseason game and he didn't impress me. He most certainly won't come in here and save the day. I'm hoping Peat can get his act together and become a solid player for us. It seems at this point in time he isn't ready for OT. Chris Long really had a field day against him. I'm hoping he can pick things up at guard. This next preseason game will tell a lot with Armstead back. Peat will start in that RG spot and I want to see how he does. Trust me the coaches are feeling pressure with Peat being he was the 13th pick. He has to find a way to see the field. The other guard spot though in my opinion is still up for grabs.

I think we're gonna be fine.

The issue is uncertainty. We're likely to have Andrus Peat at one slot and then either have Lelito at the other or an undrafted free agent.

I say we let the best players on the team earn the spots. But I really hope Andrus Peat just settles to one spot once and for all until he eventually steps into his true place at RT.

Keep an eye on Landon Turner....

Yea agree , I was watching him in the forth quarter and just focused on him . He really played well ,the tackles were a different sory but he and the center Allen stood out . I was actually surprised with is pass pro and on 2 occasions he blocke his man one handed and chipped another to help poor tackle play . He seems to be able to throw a human being with one arm so he has loads of potential . I will get flamed I'm sure but go ahead because he looks good to me . Now he needs work and a few snaps early in the game he looked slow but that 4th quarter he really seemed to get his feet under him . I like the potential , so big and powerful he can be a force just needs to figure out some small fundamentals and look out !

I think we'll most likely start the season with Lelito and Peat at guard. It'll be the weakest spot on the offense, but unless Turner or Allen can really impress and unseat Lelito, I think our starters are set. We'll be looking for one, if not two, guards next offseason. I doubt we make a trade for Leary or anyone else this late in the offseason. I do expect that Peat will improve once with Armstead back. He'll be able to settle at the guard spot for now and get the majority of his reps there, which should help him a lot.

Too late to do anything about 2016. Will be a priority next offseason.

This:

Armstead - Peat - Unger - COMPETITION - Strief

It's clear that Peat is better on the left side of the line. He's better at LG than RT so make it his official position and let him grow there. Strief can be replaced next year as he was a decent player and held his own last year. He was only embarrassed by Watt.

The other G position should be competed for by Allen, Lelito, and Turner. The best pass blocker out of them should win it.

Say Novenas.

There is no option at this point to get a real starter-grade NFL guard.

This should have been addressed during the offseason. It baffles me that it didn't get done. This is the position that concerns me the most on this team this year.

It's never too late, that's a loosing a mindset. Good teams just don't sick back and watch things fall apart, or progressively get worse.

Good teams address them BEFORE they become critical. This was supposed to get addressed during the draft or free agency.
