N/S: Bucs kicker, Roberto Aguayo, missing chip shots (2 Viewers)

I feel for the GM in a situation like this, it's almost a no win situation. If he fails the reaction will be "they used a 2nd round pick on him!?!" If he does well "well yeah he was a 2nd round pick."

So in other words, don't draft a kicker in the 2nd round.

Well if the kicker does well then the position in theory is set for 10+ years. The front office just does not get much credit from the he was a 2nd round pick crowd.

That being said no, don't draft a kicker before round 4.

I don't feel bad at all for the GM. Using a second rounder on a kicker is a horrible business decision. Unless Aguayo turns it around and quickly becomes the next Morton Anderson, this pick will be a disaster.

I'm sure he will be money against us...like every other kicker still breathing always is.

Think of it this way, how many Kickers in the history of the NFL would you draft in the 2nd? I can name one, Morten. Maybe Gary Anderson.

could be holder or anything, sure they will fix that

Eh, this guy didn't suddenly forget how to kick. I'd bet that he rights the ship. Grabbing the most accurate kicker in NCAA history in the 2nd round isn't really that stupid either, at least at face value. Put it this way, there's a 30-50% chance a 2nd round pick is a bust. So let's say you're picking in the 2nd round and you have a few needs, one of them being a kicker. You have the choice of picking the most accurate kicker in NCAA history, leaving very little room for doubt he's a success, or you grab someone else, knowing that nearly half of them will be Stanley Jean-Babtiste.

What's stupid is the Bucs weren't really that in need of a kicker, they just tried to be ahead of the curve on the unexplored increase in kicker value due to the rule change.

Still WAY too early to call him a bust. And lets be honest, he's probably going to be alright. If they are indeed locked up at the kicker position for 10+ years then obviously it was a smart pick for them because that's guaranteed points, field position, etc. Think of how many games come down to the wire and could be/could have been won by a sure-fire kicker.

Obviously I hope it doesn't work out for the bucs but chances seem high that he will end up being fine.
