My wife, kids and dogs are on notice. Next Saturday the tv is all mine. How about some of the SEC West opening games?

Auburn plays Clemson. Alabama plays Southern Cal. Texas A&M plays UCLA. Ole Miss plays Florida State. LSU plays Wisconsin at Lambeau field. Wow. I could see the West, the strongest division in college football, lose three of these games, possibly more if LSU or Bama gets upset.

When you get match ups like these, I find college ball way more fun to watch than the NFL.

Without a game being played, it looks like Alabama and LSU are the teams to beat in the West. I still make Bama the chalk until someone proves they are not. Auburn, Arkansas, A&M and Ole Miss are all dangerous teams who can contend. i think State struggles without Prescott.

But back to the opening weekend. The West could make a statement. The West could come out with a black eye. I'll be watching.

It is indeed the best opening weekend ever as far as I can tell. I know that I'm more excited about this opening weekend than any other before.

This is LSU's year. Attention is going to be intense. We'll win the SEC, Fournette will get the heisman.

Big year.

I'm right there with you. I went to lsu. Wife went to ole miss and we live in Austin. We're gonna be watching all Saturday, going to Texas notre Dame on Sunday and then watching ole miss Monday night. Can't wait

Just got back from Austin, I am small investor with some friends there in a handful of their restaurants.

Cover 3 is a cool sports bar with great food. We just opened one in around Round Rock, but I haven't seen it yet. I hear it's doing good.

The Salty Sow on Manor is doing really good. It was a funky pizza place before. It's really an interesting piece of property.

We have had Roaring Fork there for many years. It lost money for a long time, it should have been closed. But it eventually found its audience in Austin and now does very well.

Last month we had tasting at Roaring Fork for the Red Ash, a fine dining Italian place downtown that opens in September. The food was ridiculously good, I think Red Ash is going to be very popular among Austinites right out of the box. You should check it out.

The Cover 3s do really well during football season, so if you are looking for place to watch games they are fun places. But I know Shoal Creek is favored bar for Saints fans there

My partners also have Hop Doddys there. Somehow I didn't get in that deal. :crying face:

And yes, outside the SEC, the Texas Notre Dame game is one I will watch. How many games does Strong have to win to stay? I would think this is a hot seat game for him.

8 games, he's safe. 7 wins and they have another signature win, he's safe. Anything less than that gets scary for him.

I've seen cover 2 around here but not cover 3. I'll have to look into that.

I suspect all those games, save possibly tamu v UCLA, will be blowouts.

But I am glad we get two sec-pac 12 games. We need more of those.

Cover 2 and Cover 3 are basically the same. Cover 2 is in an old Hooters I think, I have only been there once since we opened. The food is the same, but the Cover 3s are a bit bigger and a bit nicer. The original Cover 3 is on Anderson Lane. All the locations do well. This week starts our high season with football.

We used to have the Z Tejas restaurants there. The guys who opened Cover 3 were our former managers at Z Tejas.

Blowouts? Which way? Do you mean Clemson blows out Auburn and Florida State blows out Ole Miss? Or are you saying SEC wins all these games by blowouts, save the Aggies?

Bama will blowout usc
Lsu will blowout Wisconsin
Fla st will blowout ole miss
Clemson will blowout auburn

I mean it's college football, and it's opening weekend, so who knows. Those are just my thoughts.

And all those games are much better than playing appy state.

I think those are the likely results, those are the teams Vegas picks to win. But they are not blowout spreads. LSU is a ten point favorite, Bama nine, Clemson 7 and a half and Fla State 5. Of those four games,Ole Miss is the dog with the best chance.

But I agree, that's what I started the thread with. The SEC west could easily lose 3 of the big 5 games they play. The debate over the best conference begins in earnest Saturday and those who are down on the SEC will be pointing to this week all year long if the SEC West doesn't win at least three of these big games.

Seems pretty easily the best opening weekend ever. Starting with Vandy / South Carolina! Anchor down!

Okay, so that game is not particularly interesting. But the full slate is great.

Maybe I can get in some midweek golf so I can park myself in front of the TV all day on Saturday.

This will be the best opening week of college football that I can remember by far! :ezbill:

I'm glad college football has moved toward the big kickoff weekend mega-matchups between blue-chip programs. The rain gods smote LSU last year for trying to open against McNeese State, so its nice to see us back in prime time this weekend.

It appears that it is do-or-die time for LSU. Last year they ended up basically where they were expected to before the season, with their losses mostly coming against the better teams on the schedule. This year they are expected to contend for the SEC title/national title and its unlikely much less will do for the more impatient fans/boosters. Unless they truly trip over their shoelaces, they'll be fun to watch even if they don't bulldoze their schedule as many expect.

I'm excited for college football to be back.

it is interesting for SEC crazies.

Loser probably does not have a winning record. And if Vandy loses I imagine it is puts a fat nail (not the final nail) in Derek Mason's Vandy coffin. And the Muschamp era is off to a horrible start if USC loses, this after the fanbase gave such a lukewarm response to his hiring.
