"During stoppage in play while on-field officials were in the process of administrating penalties, the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant and team physician requested video from the spotters and reviewed the play," NFL spokesperson Brian McCarty said in a statement . "They concluded there were no indications of a concussion that would require further evaluation and the removal of the player from the game."

NFL defends decision to not put Cam Newton in concussion protocol after hits to head

Yet they never threw a flag. At least 3 flags were not thrown on hits on newton

I believe the refs saw the helmet hits but decided not to throw the flag because they don't see Newton as a traditional pocket passer.

I understand, but he was still looking to pass when he was hit, the ball was not tucked in.

Take away all helmets.

End of problem.

Rugby has an astonishing low number of concussions.....and more physical contact than football.....without helmets.

Helmets offer the spear......but the NFL would NEVER take them away because they are the most identifiable thing in sports (NFL Helmets and their emblem).........

If the defender doesn't have a helmet, he is absolutely not leading with his head .....rather he is learning how to tackle properly.

Hah probably right

That doesn't matter. He was escaping the pocket and even tho he was looking to pass he could've still be considered a runner if he escapes the pocket and even seems like he may run.

The Marshall hit was the only direct intentional helmet hit, but Cam was running forward before the throw., and then Cam lowered his head in the process of getting hit on the other 2.

Look, we've all watched 1,000's of NFL games. Huge dudes running at full tilt and crazy things happen.

Case in point, Drew Brees gets hit in different ways than Cam Newton. Depending on other variables, those hits can be helmet to helmet, perfectly clean shots, or miss completely and allow the play to continue. Some look dirty and some are dirty.

But they all happen at speed and are incredibly hard to call right all the time AND downright impossible to determine "intent."

But when the guy who just got lit up is rolling around on the ground during a dead ball, that isn't exactly difficult to determine. Unless, of course, this is your opening game of the 2016 season, that person is the reigning MVP of the league, and you know his team doesn't have a fart's chance in a whirlwind of beating the Broncos without him.

Then you conclude that "there were no indications of a concussion" from afar and let the player continue.
