I just don't see this as a very good team. The fact that Brees played an outstanding game on Sunday and still lost goes to show how bad this defense really is. I know I will get posters that will say but we played well until breaux went out and that is true. Injuries once again have taken a toll on the back end but injuries or no injuries the backend will only be as good as the pass rush. Now some will say Brees can win this team some games and that is true but he can also lose the team some games. He is always due for one or two bad games. What happens when saints go against good defense? That automatically puts the pressure on our defense. Now some will say rankins will be back and so will breaux and that is true but rankins can only do so much eventually saints need good linebackers and defensive ends to finish the job. Breaux will be back but I'm not buying he will be back in six weeks and who knows what form he comes back in. Bottom line I'm as optimistic as they come but I just don't see it this year hopefully I'm wrong I would love for this team to prove it to me just do see it. Eventually saints need top end talent no band aids (players cut) or udfas to fill holes. I wasn't alive but as my dad eluded to the other day " it is the 1980 saints all over again" hopefully they prove me wrong.

What if the raiders are just legit. What if our offense trampled a great defense and our defense just got beat by a high throttle offense? I know it isn't likely, but it's week 2. The verdict is still out.

Hot take.

And by "hot", I mean nearly word-for-word what many others have already complained about.

I think this team has potential to be very good and are just a good team now. The key will be the adjustment period without Breaux for a while. I think DA is a very smart coordinator. I think they will play well but struggle against the more mobile QBs as always.

I think your take is no more than a distillation of the past 4 days of this forum's opinion. As such I've seen it all before and will try to continue to endure these unique and perceptive insights.

It's like you completely ignored almost every other post on the SSF for the past week and decided that you had to post this random opinion as if it is some new and enlightening thought that no other member of SR.com has had. News flash, we've had a ton of posts stating the exact same thing you just posted.

Brees is not the only player that played well vs the Raiders and the Defense played the same after Breaux went down the defense did not go to hell after his injury but you have to give the Raiders some credit they have a talented QB, WR Combo, RB and they made plays towards the end but again even with their comeback the Saints defense still forced 3 and outs that were subsequently extended by two PI calls on PJ and Robertson that would of ended the game on one (Robertson PI) and given the ball back to the Saints offense to score or atleast run more clock (PJ PI).

I think your analysis is uncomfortably accurate. No personal feelings, but I too hope you are wrong.

But I don't go with your dad on this is the 1980s Saints. SP is too good a head coach and this team has some talent, especially skilled offense positions.

But none of us know.

The biggest fear I have is that our FO is in disarray or not influenced/managed by a football savvy GM.

Who Dat. Let's beat the Giants in the rain!

The Raiders are legit and will be making serious noise come playoff time. The Saints hung right there with them.

The band wagon was seriously thinned this past week....

I pray you are right RiverRat.

But we have reached another era is Saints football. The glory days are dead and over and I think we only have 3 players left. We are now nothing like that team.

Reality is this team is now 14-19 spanning over 3 seasons and should really be 13-20. Tampa almost laid down on the field not to beat us so they could draft Winston. So it's hard to be positive on how good we are. We can and do still get jacked up for every game, but this FO, coaching staff and team needs to give us real hope and not quality hype on why we fans should think we are close to the playoffs again.

From a business franchise reason they have no real incentive. We still have a multi-year backlog of season tickets wannabes. I pray it doesn't take partially empty Domes for the FO and Ownership to realize real changes at the top of the organization need to be addressed.

For the vast majority of that game, the Saints were the better team. The Raiders fought till the end and still needed two bail out penalties to win.

In the end, we're 0-1, just the same. But do not forget how everyone, EVERYONE, was concerned about our offensive line. We just saw that they are far from a bad group. Clearly we have great coaches.

This team actually could go 11-5. It wouldn't surprise me. Doesn't mean we will, mind you. But the talent is there.

That's why I'm so positive about our team's future. The last two years, we've done a great job rebuilding this roster.

That is also why I would kind of look at a season collapse as reason to move on from Payton. I see the team as better than 7-9, even if just by a game or two. Unless injuries devastate us further, having the team go backwards? Not seeing our youn players collectively make steady improvements? It'd be a failure squarely on the HC's shoulders, and his head would need to roll off of them.

That said. I don't think that will be necessary.
