Sinkhole causes radioactive water to flow into Central Florida aquifer - wptv.com

Tip of the iceberg.

Woah Alan, we agreed no doom and gloom with mention of the amount of aging nucler (intended) reactors!

Instead try and be positive and mention new energy, clean energy. People need to hear that we CAN.
No pointing fingers at those vile evil greedy people that profited from the raping of this wonderful planet.

I find your lack of an appropriate Florida title disturbing...

What can I say....some of these admins I joust with are far better in text than I am.
That is a shout out to those that actually put up with me. :plus-un2:

admins only? what about the legions of the rest of us?:ezbill:

I literally laughed too loud.

I apologize as I sometimes go outside the lines, really do love all of you.

I'm not perfect but i try to emulate tolerance and understanding even when there are times when my thick skull gets in the way of the feedback.

I work for this company, Mosaic, here in Louisiana (actually I work for a contractor) it is not nuclear.
we have a gyp stack at my plant, it contains dirt and water from our process. we take dirt that contains phosphorus and basically squeeze it out and make phosphoric acid. what's left of the dirt, we have to put in the pond. (that's the layman's version, the actual process is a bit more complicated).
when the dirt dries, they scrape it out and build up the sides. at my plant, we just built a deep well injection. not sure of the specifics, but basically it shoots the water from the pond into an insane depth into the ground, and the earth purifies it. (or so they say).
the people who work on the gyp pond daily do not require any special PPE. no masks, suits, etc.. it's not like they are dealing with radioactive material.
some places are able to recycle their Gyp. I believe a lot of sheetrock is made from gypsum.

Back in the 80's I was one of those cheap labor folk (gimme a break I was 17 getting paid like 12/hr) who lined cyanide pits. Large rolls of at best 1/2 inch rubber was unrolled side by side while we used a thermal heater to "melt" the edges together.

I can assure you (from what I remember) that there are many holes were the chemicals would have the chance to leak. There was a few of us getting "right in the head" before we drove 20 miles to the site to do all that manual labor.

Looking back I could have done better.
