Just now on NFL live they were discussing the top NFC teams. Salisbury said the Saints still have issues which stops him from saying they're the best in the NFC. He then goes onto say Carolina will beat Dallas in the NFC championship game. I still don't know what he's seeing in Carolina, but I have to give him some credit. We always complain how the talking heads in the media flip flop so much, but at least Salisbury is sticking by his preseason pick of Carolina going to the Super Bowl. The funny part is that he picked Seattle as the best team in the NFC yet he doesn't even have Seattle playing in the title game.

Doesn't sound like he's flip-flopping, but more or less contradicting himself. But you're right - he's sticking with that Carolina pick all the way to 8-8 in January. :hihi:
Whatever - I have always wanted to know why the sports media loves Carolina so much, and my best guess is that they love John Fox as a Head Coach, which is completely understandable, they love Steve Smith and Julius Peppers - also, very understandable. I think those three are what sparks their love affair with Carolina. I guess. :dunno:

I was over at the Panthers site Sunday and all the local sports writers and fans want coach Fox to be fired. Interesting.

Coach Fox is one of the best out there.

As for Salisbury, last week he was "selling" on the Saints and "buying" on the Falcons in the football team stock segment of some random cable sports station football show.

How Sean Salisbury turned one of the most mediocre careers in NFL history into a cush ESPN analyst gig is beyond me.

If I had to guess, he seems like the type who would come to your home, eat some BBQ, throw back a few beers and watch the game with you and your boys. In other words, he's probably a likable guy around Bristol. :dunno:

Yeah, he's consistent, but I think he's banking on Carolina's history of slow starts and hot finishes.. It was just two (or three?) seasons ago that the Saints, on their way to an 8-8 finish after a 4-8 start, beat Carolina in the final game of the season to cause Carolina to finish 7-9. Up to that point, Carolina had won, like, five or six straight games. I remember that the only thing I heard was about the "character" of the Carolina Panthers for pulling things together to win so many games in a row.

I think this year is different... The Saints have proven time and again this season that if they protect the ball, there's no one they can't hang with. Take away the three INTs (turn the two in the endzone to TDs) in the Cincy game, and we could have won that game 30-24. It also seems that Jake Delhomme is regressing some this year, too... That's going to have a huge effect on their offense, especially when Steve Smith is the only true weapon producing for them...

I was thinking the same thing. He admits he's just sticking with his original choice. I ended up watching him a bunch on the NFL Blitz last night and kind of see him in a new light. On any three-minute spot, he can be tough to take, but when you watch him over the course of a Sunday evening, he's pretty consistent and contributes a lot more than Deion Sanders.

Although I agree with you for the most part, I have to note that saying Salisbury contributes more than Deion Sanders is roughly equivalent to saying Michael Vick has less STD's than Wilt Chamberlain did. :mwink:

I think Salisbury has a valid point. I also think that what we will see is a saints team taking the conference games a little more seriously than the afc games in regards to personnel decisions and play calling. I can see where from an outside point of view there are some definate concerns, but I also look for the Saints to look towards giving themselves more definition in thier NFC heavy schedule and assist Salisbury a little more in his evaluation.

Carolina's problem is not jake regressing, carolina's problem is they have not been able to replace the the very good running attach they had when they lost stephen davis. Foster, has not gotten the job done, nor that their new rookie.

Jake is great in Carolina when he has a strong running game, that opens things up for him, this year we seeing some of his limitations wouth a running game constantly putting him in 2nd and 2 and 3rd and 1 situations.

The saints will continue to get better and hotter through the end of the season, what i don't know is if it will continue into the playoffs, i'm hoping so.

I believe the panthers have more of a problem with the Offensive Coordinator and Jake Delhomme more than Fox.

Salisbury was dogging the Saints Thanksgiving morning when he was filling in for Mike & Mike. I hope he feels like an idiot now.
