I took Nick Underhill's "wildly premature depth chart" from training camp and adjusted it for injuries and players we've released since then. Below is original tweet with depth chart.

Kind of gives some perspective on what we're dealing with on injuries. Yes, I red marked Strief and Snead because at this point it's kind of hard to expect good news on player health. Anyway, just thought it was eye opening. Anyway, amazing how different a football team can look from training camp to week 3.

The good news? We got 5 healthy running backs and a FB, more than any team in the league.

So is this mostly bad luck? Is it time to start questioning our trainers? Are we not teaching guys proper techniques? I'm totally baffled by the amount of injured players we have been burdened with this season and even prior seasons.

Chris, I just don't see any correlation whatsoever between our training and teaching techniques and the injuries we have sustained. Williams was kneed from behind by two players and I am not sure there was anything we could have done to prevent that. I know we all, myself included, focus on our Saints and injuries but teams around the league every year have the same type of injuries, which are a part of the game. Just think what the Viking's fans are thinking losing their two best players in Bridgewater and Peterson within two or three weeks.

What is magnified for us is that most of our season ending injuries are at one position and I am not sure how any club can compensate for losing virtually the entire CB corps in one season.

Depth, or quality of it is our problem. We lose players and we are looking on the streets to fill spots. But that is the risk you take when you are always trading up to grab players in the draft.

This is the key, honestly. If we were 100% healthy, we would be pretty darn good. But we have suffered a ton of injuries to starters and we just don't have developed depth behind the injured.

any team's 5th CB is going to be a drop in talent
Thank you. I keep seeing posts about "lack of depth" yet no one speaks that we are literally at 4th string at this point. Guys that wouldn't be on many PS teams much less starting.

I think we are finally reverting back to our old snake-bitten form. If I had to guess, we won't have a season where we aren't dealing with a boatload of injuries until after Drew retires.

How wrong was I blaming poor conditioning on RR.

True but most teams 5th CB was a draft pick in the 6th round or something.

Ours is a street free agent.
And the difference? No one is playing their 5th CB like we are...

5 starters on defense are out. Allen got his one year pass. So, I guess make the most of it.
