In the face of so many names we know not living up to expectations or not even being able to get or stay on the field, let's give a little recognition to a guy that wasn't a big name signing that has quietly stepped up and currently has double the tackles (35) and tackles-for-loss (4) of the next best guy on our D and is on pace for a career year. We need more like him, so hats off to him!

It says something about our defensive talent that a udfa, that the Browns let leave, is our most impressive defender this year. Don't get me wrong, he's doing a great job out there. You'd just not expect that the Browns somehow felt they had more talent than him, but he's been our best.

One of the main problems is the best lb on the team is on the sidelines for most of the game. BTW robertson looked really bad when a 300 pounder out hustled him on an untouched td. i just don't get it.

Cleveland gonna Cleveland.

They also thought they had better receivers than Willie Snead.

Can't blame it all on Cleveland.

Robertson showed out like this all preseason. Most Saints fans watching new we had a winner.

Despite that, our coaches felt he was best suited as a backup.

If Ellerbe gets healthy I'd love to see them both on the field with Anthony at the same time. It would be the first time we've fielded 3 LB's that had average or better NFL speed since 2009.

Absolutely! Maybe this weekend!

Yeah right, Saints dont bench veteran leaders. If they wouldnt bench Browner they wont bench JL.

My worry is that Ellerbe comes back and Robertson hits the bench. I'd be upset. If JL is on the field and Robertson is on the bench, we deserve every ounce of suckage we get.

I want to hear from everyone who was trashing the Robertson signing saying things like "He only had 6 interceptions in 4 years in Cleveland and wasn't even a starter." when we signed him.

Dude is leading the league in tackles and is always around the ball. He got let go in Cleveland not because he couldn't play, but because he could play and wanted to be given the chance to be a starter, which they weren't willing to give him but we were.

Payton said he wanted to get Robertson on the field as much as possible as early as mini camp. Has praised his dedication on and off the field since he arrived.

He's definitely this year's Willie Sneadiv type signing.

JL has a quad injury and is on injury report. We can only hope that Stephone Wally Pipp's him this week with Ellerbe and Robertson as his LB Mates

I think Sean has an affinity with size. We have 2 well 3 teams in our division(Chip and the Seahawks want to put more on Russels plate) that want to establish the run. Thus us wanting bigger bodies.

Take the Rams D for instance. They had a Safety in Mark Barron playing as SAM. Reason for this is because of the Spread offense in that division. On our end we have the Panthers who are a running team..so it makes sense for us to have bigger bodies at the LB position.

Anthony at Sam gives you a bigger presence on the edge and Ellerbe at Will also has a size advantage over Robertson. Thats the only reason I can see them wanting to start Ellerbe over him at the Will in the base.

Thing is Robertson being undersized hasn't slowed him down and I was surprised to hear SP mention his play in the base a week ago. Makes you wonder if Eventually the LB rotation would be Robertson/Anthony/Ellerbe. As Robertson is better in zone than man..he's gotten burned quite a bit in man coverage but he gets to his landmarks in zone smoothly. Ellerbe is pretty good in Man coverage and routinely made plays while in Man during TC.

Will be interesting to see. Still seems to be the biggest problem is the vision for the D and the pieces to fit it just seem out of wack vs just developing a D around the good players on it.

Maybe even Ellerbe/Robertson/Anthony though its obvious Anthony feels best in the Middle and its been noted that Ellerbe can take on blocks if need be. I think the former might be the best option for everyone as far as comfort. Though Moving anthony back to MLB isn't going to make him get off blocks faster/better.

If Vontaze Burfict comes out next year put me on the FA signing list for a must have. Shying away from intense Defensive players just seems counter-productive to me. Watching Hicks nearly get into it with a few players on D during the Bears game vs seeing hearing James Laurinitis beg for someone to stop blocking him during the MNF game kinda hints at why our D is soft. Heard Rankins was developing into a Leader can't wait for him to return.

If Ellerbe does make it back Robertson will be in the line up the following week.

It's a shame we're 0-3 this year.
