I've never watched a youtube video of his Bills days, even when we signed him. I decided to look him up today and I'm just blown away at how different a player he has been since signing with us.

He was quick, shifty, sought out hits, looked for the ball, and most importantly, had swagger. Bumping his chests, celebrating, etc...

The player we have is NOTHING like that. It's actually pretty crazy to see. Judging from his demeanor he doesn't seem like the type of player that would cash in a check and not come to play.

I'm just going to go with this back injury was much worse than anybody thought and basically a career ender for him. Sure he's playing, but that's b/c of his paycheck.

Sure, it could be scheme, lack of pass rush, but you just odn't see the fire/aggressiveness in him like in htis video. He's super passive and doesn't seek out contact much.

Just sigh. Check this out. Idk how to embed videos

I think it's safe to say that after the surgeries he is a different player and will never come back to top tier form. He can still be serviceable - but yes that is not worth the money we all know this. We just have to ride this out until his contract is over. I'm hoping Bell develops quickly and can take over the starting spot within a year.

When I read the title of your post I thought you were referring to his Saints highlight video and you were linking to a continuous loop of a blank screen! :hihi:

I learned the hard way that it's tough to judge a free agent signing off of highlights, because you have to look at the scheme their in, coaching, and other players around them.

I don't think i'll even open that link, it would just be too depressing.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but when I clicked on the link for Byrd's highlights, I also saw this video:

It's crazy to see how much has changed in 3 years.

Not even close to what we have now. Our Byrd plays 50 yards back and still back peddles.

Always late, rarely around the ball until the WR or TE is 20 yards downfield. I never saw any highlights of him at Buffalo either but there is a night and day difference with this guy.

So, we all agree that he is greatly under performing, but do you really believe it's his choice to play "50 yards back"? You think he just says you know I'm just going to stand where ever I feel like it today. Dennis Allen is preaching to NOT GET BEAT DEEP, and to keep everything in front of you. It's why you are seeing a lot of our corners playing off and back-peddling. Quick slants are open against us all day.

According to RR, it was by design. Seeing as though we have a new DC, they are still doing the same thing.

That is the position that drives me about football then, especially on this defense. Why would anyone want to throw deep on our defenses. If they just dink and dunk all day they will wear our defense out in three series. Why don't we just cut Byrd and put Marcus Murphy back 50 yards deep, I don't think it changes the score much ?

I am mentioning Murphy, because he isn't doing much else besides catching kick offs in the end zone. point is we could put anyone at Byrds position and likely get the same return, but it wouldn't cost a million dollars a game or what every the price amounts too. . . argh.
