Think I may have figured out a big reason for so much loyalty to our over matched ST coordinator. McMahon played at Eastern Illinois from 78-81. Coached there in 82 whIle Sean joined there as a freshman QB in 83. I'm sure someone that Sean trusted from his time at E Illinois gave high praise for Mc Mahon from his time there. In the college ranks he did some great things. But I guess the game has passed him by. Or maybe he just gets a pass due to poor depth. If you think about it, the majority of ST players are Defensive guys, and we all know our depth there has been pretty bad for some time.

Thank God, Ireland is helping to rectify that problem. I guess a couple more good drafts will help to show.

Here's to a brighter future for out ST and defensive depth. :spit:

Welp...So much for a nice bye week that could have just one day without a post with that name in the title. :covri:

We played our #1 corner on special teams and he broke his leg.

Then we had one of our depth guys wipe out our own returner to cause a turnover.

and then....

You forgetting blocked field goal for touchdown and very good return for Raiders on their last possession? One could make the argument that his teams had a direct impact on all 3 of this year's losses.

Payton's downfall is his loyalty. Same with Haslett, Mora and even Ditka.

It was Armstead and Peat who allowed the B-gap pressure against the Giants, not defensive personnel.
It's still special teams. The Coach Miles of the NFL. Except Miles had a better winning percentage.

well that explains why he'll never be fired :covri:
sometimes your best friends don't make the greatest work partners/employees etc

I think if I was a coach I would strongly consider never hiring good friends. I think about my best friends and their families, no way I could tell them to kick rocks.

I definitely wouldn't.

If they begged me and I thought they were truly qualified, friendship aside, then I would have to say "then don't screw up because if you don't get results I have to fire you like anyone else". If they were fine with that risk then I might consider it but would have string reservations.

It taints the oversight and accountability relationship in coaching just as it would in politics or business and clearly it has here.
