Did anybody else go yesterday? There's another day of it today at the Cajundome.

The kids and I went and we had a blast. They got to see Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), and Steve Cardenas (the red Power Ranger). It was their first time at a comic con. If you haven't gone before and are in the area, I recommend it. We spent the day. The environment was extremely friendly. We'll be going again next year.

My 13 year old would love this. What's the cost?

I believe it's about $25 per person. I didn't go as they didn't have anyone I wanted to see or panels of interest. The next one is going to be in Shreveport in April.

I went last year and was looking forward to this year as I have a scifi project I wanted to let folks know about, but I am still caring for my Dad and have just had another of life's twists jump up.

Next year though...

My kids went.

The felt last year's was better.

My son texted that Honky Tonk Man was there, sitting in on a panel. He politely declined my request to get a picture with Ol' Wayne.

I was there Saturday. I told Ernie Hudson I was a huge fan of all of his work, but especially Congo. He just looked at me funny. Supremely nice dude, though.

Wizard World has been getting worse and worse by the year.

Wizard World (as in the parent company that evolved out of Wizard Magazine) has been having some money and management issues of late which is probably part of the reason why, but it's still the biggest con in the state.

But truthfully, I like the smaller cons. You don't get as many big names or panels but the guests they do get are more accessible and everything tends to be less cramped and crowded.

That said, I'm probably still going to WW this year anyway.

Definitely true. Guests have been pulling out or have been saying quite publicly that they would never do a Wizard World event again because of how they are being treated.

I'm undecided about going in January. Have no interest in the expected guests (even as a true Trekkie). I need to see what the panel disccusions will cover this year.

A friend who is a Star Trek actor alumni has told me the horror stories about how WW treats them.

A friend of mine went to the recent one in Austin. A current WWE superstar (can't remember who) was complaining this would be his last one because he couldn't even get any water from them.

The group that does this one, AVC Conventions, does the one in Shreveport and the Mississippi Comic Con. Last year was their first in Lafayette (I didn't go to that one), but the one in Shreveport is April 22 and 23. Depending on what guests will be there, the kids and I might haul ourselves up there. Right now, the only announced guest is Johnny Yong Bosch, the Black Power Ranger. I'm really hoping that the one in Lafayette continues to grow, as I'd love to make that one a yearly tradition.

How X Rated do these conventions get?

Not X Rated, but there were several times when I felt the need to avert my eyes from the massive amount of boobs on display. I didn't think it was exactly polite to stare. ;)
