Is it a little different feel preparing for their secondary without (Josh Norman and a lot of the veterans they had last year and a lot different younger guys?

“Yes, but the scheme takes care of itself. They have a bunch of great players on that defense. I think they have always done a great job upfront with their front 7. Those two linebackers, Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly are one of the best tandems certainly in the business now but maybe ever. Those two guys are pretty incredible. Just what they do and how the execute the defense and run the scheme and get everybody squared away with what they are doing. They are a very smart group and a high performing group. I have a lot of respect for these guys. A lot of those coaches have been there now since 2011 so I think being a divisional opponent and we play each other twice a year, you can know that it is always going to be a battle.”

They are 1-4 after 14 straight wins last year, is it something that you have seen that they have done or has it just been the matchups and the way the ball has bounced this year?

“I think it is probably the way it has bounced. As I analyze it and from what I’m looking at from a defensive perspective, I think they’re as good now as they’ve ever been. I know they have had some tough loses just like we have. I think we know exactly what they are capable of and we think we know the mindset they have coming in this week eating away (at them) just like we do. There is always a lot at stake especially with divisional games and especially with the situation that we are in.”

WWL - AM870 | FM105.3 | News | Talk | Sports - Brees: Despite Record, Panthers Are As Good As They've Ever Been

Q&A with Brees about this week's game against the Panthers. Didn't see it posted, but if it was, please delete.

I disagree that they're as good as they were last year, but what's he supposed to say?

Cam can't hit the broad side of a barn from inside the pocket with no pressure?

They released their best corner and veteran safety and replaced them with rookies and a 2nd year player who's already been benched for someone they picked up off the streets?

This is one of the worst starts for a Super Bowl team from the previous year in recent memory?

He's too diplomatic to say anything like that. Not to mention, he's not stupid enough to give them any bulletin board material when we've got the advantage of coming off a bye while they're coming off a short week.

I'm sorry, love Drew, but this is a dumb statement by him. The Panthers are as good as they've ever been? Maybe that's just him trying to keep our players focused. That could be it, and if so, I apologize for calling him out. But they are obviously not playing as well as they did last season.

always remember that he also encourages us to think Jimmy John's is good too

What would you like him to say?

"Yea, we feel pretty fortunate. They are having a down year and pretty much suck. We are needing to get back on the right track, so having a 1-4 team coming to our place is just what the doctor ordered. I cant wait to drop a 40 burger and throw for 350."

The Panthers are a good team. They lost to 3 of the better teams in the NFL (Den, Min, Atl) and had one bad game without their starting QB, RB, and LT. They are not as good as last year but still better than their record. Much better than NYG who we lost to.

Yeh, take it to the complete opposite direction, huh? He doesn't have to do that either. Just sounds dumb to say they are playing just as good as the team that nearly had an undefeated season last year.

This ... I think fans are overlooking the teams that beat them in very tough games. Don't like our chances either against Denver, Atlanta (already a loss / or rematch) or the young Bucs, Were fortunate we don't play the Vikings.

I look for the Panthers to have fire in their eyes this Sunday and we probably play much too soft for this kind of matchup. Panthers 34-20.

I think he's saying that they are still a tough out. They have superstars in their front 7 and if we play sloppy on offense, they will eat us alive. Our defense will have to step up because we can't get down by 10 plus and expect to come back. Both teams are trying to turn things around - who makes fewer mistakes?

Naw, not much better by any means. Better front 7, weaker back end unit for sure. Probably a better Oline right now but it's real close. Neither QB is doing much. Both beat up at RB, Giants have the better receiving core and sp team's. Ron Rivera isn't a good head coach, but he isn't nearly as over matched as the Giants head coach. Giants would be favored against Carolina at home and Carolina would be favored at home. Team's are actually at best even.

Lol this Panthers team isn't beating even our banged up team by two scores. Get this man a Newton jersey.
