Interesting week. In wake of investigation results that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7's combustion problem is worse than first thought and isn't an easy fix, Samsung quit production on the phone and estimates are that the problem could cost Samsung as much as $20 billion.

And maybe the market timing of the year (or even more), Google launches its new Android phone, the Pixel.

Google's last phone never got any traction - but will Samsung's troubles set the stage for the new Google phone to gain a place in the market?

my co-worker pre-ordered the pixel last week for the low price of 830~ish. think he got every option. I'll get to touch it (lol) in a few weeks.

I'm astonished at how well the camera seems to perform on the Pixel. The sensor seems incredibly tiny (like iphone 3G tiny), but the pictures seem very impressive.

I was actually considering the Note 7 a few weeks ago. Glad I went with an iPhone instead.

Certainly Google's production of the Pixel had nothing to do with anticipating Samsung's problem but you have to guess that the Google people involved in that project had to be absolutely giddy at Samsung's announcement.

The funny thing is the one change I really hated moving to a Note 5 was them going with the lifetime enclosed battery, and that was true for many long term fans. Funny, that's exactly what killed the 7, going with the sealed battery of Apple closed design.

I was contemplating the Note 7 but this whole mess has turned me off to it. I'll just soldier on with my 6 for a bit more. Maybe I'll wait to see if the iPhone 8 is worth it.

Wow. I didn't realize how old my Note 4 was. I don't even realize what I'm missing. I still find my Note 4 meets all my needs. I hated the change to the enclosed battery and the inability to add a micro SD card. I really don't know what phone I'm going to get when my Note 4 dies. I have to have a removable battery and the ability to add a micro SD.

HTC for the win!

I'm not a huge fan of the encased batteries, but the one on my HTC One m8 is still a champ.

I was the same with my Note 2 actually making it until the end of last year or beginning of this. The power button finally stopped working. If it weren't for that I'd still be on the Note 2.
