It's way early in the season, but I have a serious question.

What is the worst that the Saints final W-L record could be and still have Brees be seriously in the MVP conversation?

Manning is retired.
Brady was suspended for 4 games.
Roethlisberger will miss time with an injury.
Wilson and Rogers both look very, very human.
Prescott is going to be replaced when Romo comes back.
Rivers, Dalton, Eli, et al. will all regress to their own mean soon enough.

Laughably, that leaves Matt Ryan as the early season leader, with Brees putting up stats that will keep him in the conversation.

So, what do you think? When Brees puts up ANOTHER 5K with >66% accuracy, 40+ TD's and his usual 12 INTs, will he be in the conversation if the Saints are 8-8? 7-9? Or is it just another Susan Lucci season?

if we can win on Sunday he gets into the conversation , we need Matty Melt to come back to earth and I expect that to happen . There will be a couple dark horse's before its all said and done

They will never consider Brees an MVP during a 7-9, 8-8 season. He's had seasons like that where he's topped 5000 yards and he's not even in the conversation. I think you at the very least have to be a playoff team. It's sad, because we are the Browns without him, but sportswriters like winners and also like to typically talk about younger, new face of the league type players. So that's a double whammy that works against Drew.

Winning the division at 9-7 or better may get it done. Seems like the early narrative is a RoY/MVP for Ezekiel Elliot.

The fact the Brees has never even gotten close to getting an MVP seriously ticks me off like nothing else.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they always give it to the team with the best record. Which may be 13-3 or better. So there's virtually no chance Brees gets it unless we finish 13-3 which someone is ikely to do If the Patriots finish say 14-2, they will give to Brady no matter what. They may also give to a defensive player

It's not official, but it tends to be a playoff thing. If your team is in the playoffs, then the best player that helped their team make it to the playoffs is going to be considered.

Prescott is going to be replaced when Romo comes back.

I wouldn't be so sure. He has been playing very well. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the cowboys didn't trade romo after this season.
also, as much as I hate to say it, mvp could go to matty ice this year. wins mean everything. like when manning won over drew, only b/c they had more wins than the saints

Here is the history since 2000:

2015 - Cam Newton (15-1, best record)
2014 - Aaron Rodgers (12-4, tied for best record)
2013 - Peyton Manning (13-3, tied for best record)
2012 - Adrian Peterson (10-6, not best record, didn't even win the division
2011 - Aaron Rodgers (15-1, best record)
2010 - Tom Brady (14-2, best record)
2009 - Peyton Manning (14-2, best record)
2008 - Peyton Manning (12-4, 2nd best record, tied, Titans were somwhow 13-3)
2007 - Tom Brady (16-0)
2006 - LaDanian Tomlinson (14-2, best record)
2005 - Shaun Alexander (13-3, 2nd best record)
2004 - Peyton Manning (12-4, not the record, Steelers were 15-1, Patriots were 14-2 and Eagles were 13-3)
2003 - Peyton Manning and Steve McNair (both 12-4, Patriots were better at 14-2)
2002 - Rich Gannon (11-5, 2nd best record, several teams were 12-4)
2001 - Kurt Warner (14-2, best record)
2000 - Marshall Faulk (10-6, not the best record)

So it is possible to win it if you're team doesn't have the best record. However the floor seems to be 10-6 and a playoff appearance. So if Brees finishes head and shoulders above all other QBs AND the Saints are at least 10-6 AND make the playoffs, I think he will get a serious look.

he needs to preform on the road as he does at home. played ok at NY and poor at SD

Getting to the playoffs while leading in most statistical categories would give him an edge. Somehow winning the division while having that edge would make it even more possible

He's gotta chill out on the slightly overthrown passes that end up easy picks too. He did great the first few games and now he's had an INT in three straight I believe
