The O-line isn't solely about pass blocking.

Our running backs still aren't performing up to league average. Not even close.

Yeah but.......

Isn't this 100 times better than the pass protection we saw against vanilla defenses in the preseason? I mean seriously, that was almost unwatchable.

Also, How do you know the running game isn't suffering more because of the running backs? It could be more about the line than the backs, but I'm pretty sure the average fan doesn't have that info.

Plus...
1. We're only 5 games in. It takes time to have an O-line to completely gel.
2. Armstead has been out a few weeks and I've watched the left guard position struggle a little. I believe we will get better as the year progresses, but I don't think we'll every be a run dominant team.

In Sean Payton/Drew Brees offense, IF THE LINE PASS BLOCKS well, then we score 30 plus points.

So while it's not solely about pass blocking, it's 90% of it for our team.

And the NFL is a pass-first league now, and it's not even close.

Drew probably has as much to do with the lack of pressure as the line does.

In preseason, it -was- bad.

But they fixed it. Re-signing Jahri on Sept 7th, along with moving Peat back to the left side, was the key.

We are 29th in rushing yards per game. Run blocking is still an issue. This line isn't anywhere near the 2009-2011 level.

Our pass protection success is much more Drew and Sean than the line.

All that aside it's been a lot better with Peat on the left side. He's much better at LG/LT and has filled in very well for Armstead.

In preseason before we had Jahri... Armstead was out... Strief was out... Peat was bouncing between RG and RT, Lelito was playing a lot and really looked to have regressed. All of that was a disaster. The OL was horrible at that time.

I really think the limited number of training camp snaps has hurt our team more than others for one reason or another. That's been the reason for our slow starts the past few seasons.

The Evans signing was so under-rated.

Not saying he was single-handidly a savior.......but him going back to his old spot allowed Peat to go left (as LoE pointed out)...and it had this domino effect.

Plus maybe they're just being coached up properly?

One thing this season has confirmed is that Payton is a genius at running an offense. He is brilliant at installing protections and developing O linemen with his staff. I just hope Armstead stays healthy the rest of the season and Peat recovers soon from his knee injury. If we can get all of our starters out there again, we can be one of the best O line units in the league.

Some of that is because Payton positions Ingram too close to the O line. He has no time to square his shoulders. The exposed handoff is also a dead giveaway, and helps defenses react before the handoff.

Whatever happened to handoffs that were totally hidden to the defense? Now days, the QB hangs the ball out there 3 feet where the entire defense can easily track the ball.

I wish ball handling would come back, I miss it.

On the O-Line, I wasn't worried. I had confidence that Drew and Payton would find a way to protect him. The run game is another matter.
