Top 10 QB's Ever (1 Viewer)

Up until now he was not being mentioned anywhere near the top 10. I saw lists in the recent past had him barely in the top 25.

He should only be behind Montana, Brady and Manning in the modern era of football (post 1970 merger). Where to put someone like Unitas is a bit of a conundrum. So for me he is no worse than 5th.

He should clearly be ahead of Favre (turnover machine) and especially Elway. Marino as well without a ring.

Then start to consider all the Pro Bowls, or lack thereof of his receiving corps. That has to carry major weight as well.

Once Drew shatters all the records of Peyton Manning, and I mean completely shatter, he must be placed 3rd only behind Montana and Brady. He will end up with the 4th most wins all time, even with a mediocre to bad supporting cast for a signifant part of his career (07, 08, 12, 14, 15, 16).

He should be top 5 at worst. The bad years since he's been here are due to the awful defenses we've had. When you look at raw numbers, he should be no lower that 5, maybe even higher.

I thought we put the Tom Brady thing to rest when we're now up to three scrubs replacing him over his career and looking close to as good?

It's not where we think Brees should be, but it's a start. And Top 10 of all time in a league that's been around about 70 years (?) is pretty high praise. If he can somehow get that 2nd SB ring that will jump him up the list.

I think he's Top 3, but I am Homer.

I think Brees is a top 5. Montana was a great QB, but always a bit over rated.
Montana was solid but he also had one of the best situations to play in of any QB in history.

They had it all. Run game/top OL (and they used it a lot), top defense, Jerry Rice, innovative offensive coach, and of course the cheating in the organization also helped.

When it's over, Brees will own every record that matters except (maybe) TDs. He'll also have at least one SB on his resume.

If that doesn't make him top 5, even top 3, then the entire sports media complex is just insanely biased.

Championships are a tough measuring guide.

Baseball doesn't grade best ever CFs by how many championships they won.

Football, like baseball, is a complete team sport.

Running backs aren't doing squat with a bad offensive line.
QBs aren't doing squat with bad WR or OL

Basketball, while a team sport, can be dominated by a player that can get the ball on a clear out every time down court.

Baseball, no matter how great you are, you can only hit once every 9 batters.

So I'm more likely to judge QBs by stats than rings.

In fact, Eli and Flacco have more "rings" than Drew, not sure anyone thinks they are better.

That being said, the top 5 in my mind, without question....

I don't know who "we" is, but Tom Brady's "scrub" backups are definitely not close to as good as Brady. Even if you don't think he's top 3 all time (which I think he most definitely is), you just compared guys like Matt Cassel and Jimmy Garoppolo to one of the greatest to ever play the game. If you're not a Brady fan, criticize him for what you think are his shortcomings. When you make silly comparisons like that, you lose all credibility. :9:

I see Drew currently in the top 5. If we can win another championship and he continues at his current pace for a few more years, there's no reason he can't enter the conversation for the GOAT, with the likes of Brady and Montana.

By the time he retires and a few years pass, Drew's position among the greatest ever will be solidified.

I always find it funny that people talk about the championships or lack thereof clouding judgment, and yet still there is little mention of Peyton here. The guy played QB at an insanely high level consistently for 18 years. He was not as great in the playoffs an in the regular season, but its hard to think of a QB that was more of a sure thing from week-to-week than Peyton.

GOAT? Maybe not, but the fact that he's so assuredly left off in favor of Brady constantly is dumb.
