Michael Thomas PFF (1 Viewer)

He passed last weeks test making plays all over the field...not sure how many came against Peters...but this is the biggest one. I'm loving this kid and his uptick in targets have been consistent each and every week. He hasn't gone below 8 targets in at least 3 games.

That first incomplete pass the DB was with him. They went back to him on a deeper slant and he was money. Kid just knows how to run routes and set up DB's to a Tee. You have to respect all parts of the route tree with him because he can threaten outside and inside equally.

I actually pulled off a trade. Gurley/Sproles for Thomas/Blount because I wanted him that much. Those both went on to score 45pts this week together....while the guy I traded with thought he had a steal.

I knew it, if you remember people on the SR board were so excited when we drafted him.

Let's see if they kept that excitement up !? or the selective short-memory is in full force again...

Love the way he plays. Very physical and moves around out there like a wild man, but has anyone else noticed he's mostly used on slant routes with passes straight to his body? This may very well be because it's the best thing for the offense, hit em low with thomas, opening up a big play for other receivers.

I just wonder if we are going to see that he's somewhat limited. I want to see a shot play to thomas for a jump ball.

Again, love the pick, he's a great addition, these slants may just be scheming from the coaches.

We'll what you are seeing is his ability to beat Man to Man coverage consistently which we haven't seen from a WR in quite some time. Also reading Underhills Article in a recently posted thread Thomas caught slants, curls, crossers, back shoulders, and screens. He's also got a few downfield jump ball throws on his Resume from Pre-season where he came down with the ball. So i don't think its cause he can't do it....just hasn't been used in that capacity yet.

I definitely believe he is going the be the best WR in the draft. He can do it all and the best thing is he is technical. Once he grows physically with NFL weight training he will be unstoppable.

I gotta think that Brees and SP are going to start using Thomas on long passes. If he makes a few AJ Green type catches, he will create chaos for defenses. We have seen that he is lethal across the middle, quick outs and curls routs. So CBs have to play him close to the LOS. Once he establishes himself as a long ball threat also, double coverage becomes mandatory with the safety covering over the top. Guess who that leaves with the #2 CB and no safety help? Brandin Cooks = lethal. Devery Who?

You don't need PFF stats to see that Thomas is a beast. He's got the technique of a vet, plays big, and has the mentality of a great player. Great fit with Drew and a perfect compliment to Cooks.

He's also very football smart. He is the mvp of recovering fumbles for our offense this season. I can think of two regular recoveries he has that were just heads up plays.

I'm excited to see him doing so well early on.

Great point. His most recent fumble recovery was pretty amazing as he was not really in position to recover the fumble, just used great awareness and will power to get to the loose ball.

Couple that with Cook's fumble recovery against KC. We probably have the most fundamentally sound receiving corps in the league right now. Fleener is making improvements every week, and they're still giving Coleman opportunities so I think he's progressing at least in the eyes of the coaches.

I think the youth movement is paying off for this team, first on offense and hopefully soon to come on defense. Because now you have T L Lewis and Lasco learning from these leaders. I think the coaches have made a statement in releasing Spiller and sticking with Cadet. Talent isn't going to solve all your problems and make you a starter. You need to play smart and know the system.
