Im not an avid beer drinker, bourbon being my drink, but last night had two and gotta say its pretty darn good.

anyone else tried this yet?

I've seen it, but generally, Abita's beers don't hold much appeal for me. There are tons of better things going on in the local beer scene than Abita these days.

For example, last week I picked up a growler of wet-hopped Urban South IPA. (wet hopped is a process where fresh hops, as opposed to the usual dried are dropped in the beer for a few days after kegging). It was a fantastic fresh flavor.

if you like German beers..this one brewed using specific german hops ( hallertau blanc ) and yeast. ( German Kolsch)

again...im not nearly as well versed as many when it comes to beer, but found this one to be pretty tasty.

All I know is that I don't like IPAs.

Here in North Texas, they sell Abita, but it's usually a while before we get the newer stuff that comes out. We just got Andygator within the last year.

I agree a little with buzd that there are better options than Abita, but I like supporting local south LA businesses with my money from here in :hookthem:. Plus one if it's beer.

I haven't tried that one yet, but I did have a LA 31 Ragin' Cajun a couple days ago and it was very good.

I have had it and its one of the better new Abita brews in a while. Also, its exclusive to Louisiana per all their marketing of it.

I have to agree with most here though, there is much better beer going on in Louisiana right now than Abita. Great Raft, Nola, LA-31, Parish, etc. are all better beer in my opinion. Some years ago, Abita went through a process of ramping up production to meet their popular and uncontested demand and in turn they went through period where the product was very inconsistent. You could get an amber that was the best you had ever had and then get one that was downright undrinkable. This happened to align with the time when Nola Brewing was starting up and in turn, I moved on from Abita and didn't go back for a while. It is still pretty low on my list now though I have to say, they have gotten past their issues.

I feel like Abita just plays it too safe across the board and just can't bring themselves to push the envelope or go big. Their Bourbon Street series of bourbon barrel-aged stouts is a typical example . Abita's attempts are all just too thin and bland and sort of flat to compare well with Bourbon County Stout, Founders KBS, etc. I want it to be better because it's local and because it's much easier for me to find but it just isn't good enough.

Yes! Had one last night while waiting for trick-or-treaters.

Wife and I like it. Definitely, thumb's up.

NOTE: These were "imported" from Lafayette over the weekend along with some Ragin Cajun, Canebreak and Yuengling...Trying to stock up for the holidays.

We had our school fair this past weekend and in addition to the usual Bud/Bud Light there was the welcome addition of Parish/Canebrake and one of the Tin Roof's (not sure which one). The Tin Roof was a little bland for me but I dig the Canebrake.

Being that I'm in Florida, I'll gladly drink Abita. Haven't had the Boot beer though. Strangely, I'm enjoying the peach one.

Otherwise, there are some cool Florida breweries near by that have found a beer or two of theirs in many of the local bars. I like the Funky Buddha Floridian. Monk in the Trunk is another good one, but you usually have to find that one in stores.

I bought a sixer of it a couple of weeks ago. It was ok, but not something I'll get again most likely.

I agree that there's a lot of good things going on in state other than Abita. But as someone who thinks drinking an IPA is as enticing as chewing a Tylenol, a lot of what is out there is too hoppy and an over saturation of pale ales.

Abita should package their Macchiato into six packs. That may be one of the best beers I've ever had, but they don't package it and I haven't seen it at a restaurant in a while. Damn shame too.

NOLA's Irish Channel Stout and Darkest Before Dawn are very good too. But then again, stouts and porters are my brews of choice.

Gnarley Barley has a great milk porter that they sell in the large bottles and is on draft in some places. Give it a try if you have a chance. Also, Great Raft's Reasonably Corrupt is a black lager that is great. It drinks like a lighter porter/stout. Great Raft also has a special run called "All of my tomorrow's" that is really good.

I agree on the hops situation, I will drink IPAs, but lean towards other beers first.

Gnarly Barley is the one out of Hammond, right? Yeah I've had that mil porter in a big bottle and it's really good.

Going to have to try the Great Raft ones.

Yes, Gnarley Barley is out of Hammond.
