I know niners are bad but they have had 2 weeks to prepare for us and you know ow how the saints are after a big win in the past.

Meh. I'm still at "as long as we look better each week, maybe we can make a run next season". Maybe I'd feel different if the Falcons didn't have six wins. But I'm not at the point where games scare me.

Normally I would say yes... something feels different this year. This is a new team... a young and hungry team... I like our chances!

You are not the only one who is concerned, OP. Remember, the Saints have not won a road NFC West game in 6 years.

Ironically, the 49ers were the last team we beat in a road NFC West game (2010).

Well put. You can look back at my post history for the past few months and see exactly what you just said.

I have seen the plan taking shape with this team for the past year or so. They took a shot with JR & Jimmy & Byrd and they missed. They accepted their mistakes, albeit slowly. Now they are taking shot #3 and I can clearly see what the idea is.

'06-'08: Building up a downtrodden franchise
'09-'11: Shot #1 ends in success!
'12: This season does not exist to me, and never will
'13-'14: Shot #2 (Jr, JG, & Byrd) Big whiff.
'15-'16: Retooling
'17-'??: A last run at glory for as long as Brees arm can hang on

I've even suggested that folks throw down a few dollars on the Saints winning the Super Bowl over the next 3 years, as I truly believe that they will be that good and the betting odds are only going to go down as the Saints play better and Carolina and Seattle both slowly return to the median.

This season has never been about winning any particular game for me. It has always been about player development, determining who will be here in '17 and therefore which holes will need to be filled in FA and through the draft, and learning to win.

But, the lagniappe in all of this is IF the team does stay competitive throughout the season, and get to play in tough, meaningful games late in the year, perhaps even loosing (or winning) a wildcard game. That type of experience, while not inherently necessary to going on a 2 or 3 year run, does seem to be helpful in showing a young team what is necessary.

This team will learn something today, I'm quite sure of that. How to put away a lesser team? How dangerous a lesser team can be? How to finish a tough game on the road with a win?

I wonder which lesson will be learned today?

Not at all, because win or lose I don't think it makes much of a difference. The Falcons have a 3 game lead and I don't see them losing that, the way they are playing.

Every saints game scares me. You never know if this is gonna be one of those where we lose to a team like the Browns or beat a team like Seattle.

This is one of the 2 games this year where we really should dominate, the other is the Rams. I would include Tampa, because they are just awful right now, but division games are usually competitive even when they shouldn't be.

That being said... Trip across the country to play outdoors against a bad team coming off a bye week, who's QB has looked like hot trash, and who's running backs are a committee of developmental players. PFF rates almost every player on SF's offense and defense as "poor".

Any given Sunday and all that, but we should beat them by double digits. 30's to teens.

With Breaux and Rankins back, this is the most confident ive felt in weeks.

They ALWAYS give us trouble :covri: we could be 15-0 with them 0-15 and they'll play us like its a playoff game. They and the Browns always give us fits when they shouldn't

If you aren't worried about this game, you should be.

We are about to face a west coast road game against a team that's lost six straight against the spread and is coming off a bye. Absolutely terrible setup.
