Leaving soon for 2 weeks roaming around those cities. Have a number of tours scheduled, but left ourselves free time in each city for exploration.

Eiffel, Louvre, Catacombs, Accademia, Chianti vineyard, Colosseum, Sistine, & Vatican all planned. What else? Got 1 free day in each of the cities.

Thx

Who are you travelling with?

Since you are doing tours, I don't know that I'd necessarily plan anything on your extra days. That way you can sorta leave it up to your mood on what you want to get into. All three of those are great cities for walking and enjoying your surroundings.

Sacre Coeur is certainly worth your time on the metro to go up the hill.

But if I were in Paris right now I might walk in the Marais neighborhood and have a savory crepe and bottle of cider at Breizh Café. Or maybe for a fun day go to the Grand Epicerie and piece together a picnic. The Rodin Garden is behind the museum and is a great place to people watch while you eat lunch and enjoy a bottle of wine.

Oh and any restaurant tips are appreciated too.

As far as Paris, there are so many cafes and little restaurants that I would try just about anywhere. We would just pop into places and almost always had something amazing.

With that said, we were staying right by the Wepler Brasserie (Le Wepler) which is famous (??) for oysters (I don't actually know how famous) and we went in mostly because it was close to where we were staying.

Best. Oysters. Ever. (and I've eaten a lot of oysters). Definitely the same species as we get from the gulf, but just the perfect amount of brine - like tasting the ocean. I got the oysters from Brittany (Bretagne) and I've never had anything like them.

Speaking for Rome, I would say keep that day free and use it just to walk around. One day we were there our only "destination" was the Pantheon, and just wandered the rest of the way. Was able to take in sights like this without even having a plan. Don't be afraid to just walk into churches in the middle of the day. I assume same would go for Florence.

everything in Florence - it's probably the most beautiful city on the
Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi

paris - Jardin des Luxembourg (sp?) is nicenice
i LOVE the rodin and picasso museums and i don't genreally like impressionism but the d'Orsay is stunning

Rome, just stick to the touristy stuff - there is a tiny chapel that has the bones of all of the deceased priests on all the walls - it sounds gross but it becomes kinda beautiful after awhile

Just the wife and I without a tour group. We didn't want to be tied to a schedule the entire trip. And we left days free specifically to explore like you suggest.

We do have a walking tour of Florence. It's kind of vague, but suspect it will cover at least some of those.

Enjoy discovering Florence with a unique in-depth tour led by specially trained Artviva guides, famous for being knowledgeable

and entertaining and run by the only Florence tour company recommended by just about every major travel guide and seen on

BBC World, History and Discovery channel. Experience the highlights and must sees of Florence with fabulous stories that bring

the past to life. Hear how Florence's 2000 years of tumultuous history changed the world forever.

Thanks for the other ideas, will add them to the list.

Take in the food in Italy,

Rome - Da Ivo in Trastevere, best pizza on this planet.
As well the Pantheon is mind blowing, your walking around on theses small streets then BAM, this huge landmark pops out.

Florence - La Giostra, I would go to Florence just to eat there again. Must have while in Florence, La bistecca ala Fioretina, a big chunk of meat. But please don't ask for steak Stacie, they'll kill you.
Florence is considered by many Italians as the darling of Italy.

As well, stop at the Autogrill's along the highways, probably the best espresso's you'll ever find.

We've got a culinary tour of Rome. Not exactly certain what that means, but it sounds tasty. I pretty much just let the wife pick what she wanted and opened the checkbook.

Fully intend to get my midlife crisis car guilt free in another year. :ezbill:

I've noted your food suggestions and appreciate. Not certain I wanna know what Stacie did...

I'm Jelly. In Feb I'm taking a 3 year old, a 5 year old, a 7 year old, my wife, and her 70 year old mother to Disney.

I'd bet that you will have a much more relaxing time, have a much more cultured experience and spend less money then me.

Take lots of pics!!!
