I can usually tell how the Saints offense will fair by the first or second series. If they look out of synch early or Brees just looks "off"...they never seem to recover. I really don't understand why offensive adjustments are not made once it is obvious that what we are doing is not working.

We started slow last week and exploded.

I don't think it's that cut and dry. Detroit came with a great gameplan to limit us downfield and when we can't go downfield, we struggle.

There's very little "west coast" left in this offense.

Last week was one of the few times I have seen this team start out of synch but then still recover.

I remember Payton saying Josh Hill opens up alot of the offense, or there are things we can't run if he isn't on the field. Perhaps some of our game plan got killed when Hill got hurt.

Fleener dropped a TD.

To beat that cover two defense we need a good joker TE/RB. We lost the other game we played against a cover 2 team the exact same way.

Fleener isn't a big difference maker and Cadet is Cadet.

We'll be getting one this off-season. Mark it down.

And this

Detroit did the opposite of what the Rams did. The y muddled up the middle of the field and dared us to beat them over the top. They figured there is a good reason why Cooks wasn't targeted on those deep routes he ran last week and we just proved them right.

Against a terrible team.

And this

Didn't we "get one" this past offseason???

Who?

No we released Spiller. Unfortunately SP missed on both Spiller/Fleener as far as capabilities in the offense. Neither provide the type of mismatches you expect/expected. To balance out Fleener we're going to have to get an Elite Joker RB unless we cut him next year(which I doubt)and scrap it. Fleener I think has his uses but he's average in this scheme for what we expect from him. His body language also look poo poo at times.

We can try to make all of the excuses we want but it was just really poor play-calling against a notoriously weak defensive backfield. The play-calling lacked aggression. Stafford was obviously hot and made it evident that we needed to score TDs to keep up. Instead we played methodical as though coach didn't want to get off script. This was almost as bad as the Chiefs game. I think that coach needs to hand the play-calling over to Carmichael. Oh and get a defense next year.
