So I'm at the checkout counter at CVS and the lady has bought a whole bunch of bagged already popped popcorn. I heard her tell the cashier that she swears by this popcorn now. That it is so much better, and fresher than microwave popcorn. Cashier agreed saying something about enjoying white chedder popcorn or something like that. My point, and my question to y'all is already popped bagged popcorn better than microwave popcorn? I usually get the microwave popcorn but is bagged popcorn like you get at a grocery or pharmacy more fresher, and better? Any bagged popcorn eaters on this forum? Tell your thoughts?

The bagged corn has gotten pretty good.

Microwave popcorn in the pre-packaged form is full of bad ****, as I understand it. Actually, you can take bulk popcorn kernels and put them in a paper lunch bag with a little bit of oil and salt (the oil isn't necessary but helps the salt stick) and it will pop in a microwave (3:30 power level 8 works well on mine). Use a couple of staples to keep the bag sealed at the top. And that only has three ingredients instead of all that crap in the commercial micro bags - also a lot cheaper.

I don't trust microwaves anymore. No one can explain why my Spaghettios make lightning.

That Smartfood white cheddar popcorn is addictive. I've stopped buying it because I will eat almost the whole bag in one sitting.

It's popcorn. Go ahead and eat the whole damn bag. Tell the kids you'll buy another one.

Both of them are terrible. I cook my popcorn old school on the stove with oil and a pot.

It takes less time than opening the damn bag.

Put small amount of oil in pot
Put seeds in pot
Place foil on pot with holes punched in
Turn heat on high
Pop corn and salt.

It's the cheapest and best way to make popcorn.
This. Only I have to do it outside on the deck using the camp stove. Momma no let me pop in the house- too stinky, it is.

I made the mistake a few years ago and did this for my wife and kids. now, that's the only kind of popcorn they want. I don't care for a lot of butter on my popcorn, and 99% of microwave popcorn is butter, movie butter, triple butter, etc.. I like just plain ole salted popcorn. but it starts to become a chore they want it so often, but I'd prefer them eat that than chips for a snack.

Interesting...is it the fine motor skills required to open the bag?

At any rate, I prefer the old school method too now. One day the wife said, "microwave popcorn is bad for us, we're not getting it anymore." We went through every air and oil popcorn popper on the market and we were not satisfied with the results. Most of them just made chewy popcorn. I tried to convince myself it was okay, but it wasn't. As a last ditch effort I tried the stove. :9: So much better! I do like the bag popcorn too though. It's not sitdown and watch a movie quality good, but it's good for snacks at work and at the park.

Popcorn = diverticulitis

At least, that's what an internist has told me anecdotally. I don't think a proper study has been conducted.

Skip both and make it fresh like me with the amazing Whirley Pop! Only 3 ingredients needed. Makes a huge tub in about 5 min and I love it for movie night!!!

What's the quality like on that? It looks interesting. My wife makes unbelievable caramel corn, but only once a year for Christmas. I'm hoping this might encourage her to make it twice a year.
