Matt Barkley to backup Brees?

He is playing well with the Bears, and is on a 1 year deal with them. We aren't looking to replace Brees for a couple of years, but I would love to bring Barkley here and let him sit behind Brees. I doubt it happens, but of qb options (draft or free agency) he is one I would like to see us sign to move towards that future.

He will start somewhere next year.

Bears receivers have been awful too. I saw his stats on the ticker too and he threw 3 picks. Don't know if that was more on him than on the receivers.

This wouldn't be a terrible decision. Next season could be Brees last in New Orleans and they don't have a replacement yet for Brees. It might not be Barkley but they need to start looking at other QBs from Free AGency and the draft.

He may of won the bears starting job. They found a gem at running back and a pretty good game manager at QB in Barkley that's a receipt for success, strong run game and a solid passing attack the Bears may build around d this year around those two players on offense.

CHicago would be smart to resign him. It took a few years and the right system for the light to come on, but it did. He looks good for the time he has played.

Why?

I saw him here in Philly when he was drafted. He was awful. Couldn't unseat Sanchez for God sake.

It takes time for the light to go on with some guys, Gannon, Warner, Brees, Young, etc., etc. If we could bring him down here to play that Steve Young to Drew Brees' Joe Montana, we would be wise to do it.

He was highly regarded as a draft prospect but he blew up his arm his last year at USC. He might just be coming back to form.

Is this serious?

Is what serious? Discussing bringing in Barkley to learn behind Brees? Given that the Bears might want to draft their qb of the future, and Barkley would be resigned strictly as a place holder there, yeah, we are discussing the prospect of bringing him here to learn under Brees.

Whats got you lost?

NOPE.
Matt Barkley Scouting Report: NFL Outlook for USC QB | Bleacher Report

The first issue many will identify when taking a look at Barkley is his height. His NFL Combine measurements (6'2 1/2" 227 lbs), however, surprisingly reveal he is one of the bigger starting quarterback prospects in this class.

The hot-button issue when discussing Matt Barkley’s NFL future has always been arm strength. It seems like anywhere you go, somebody wants to knock his arm. What I noticed on tape, however, surprised me a bit. While Barkley will certainly leave some passes short, I do not think that is always a result of below-average arm strength.
Don't need a QB that needs a laundry list of prerequisites before he can attempt a pass.

It is interesting, by this time in Brees career he had a completion % of 57.6 and a qbr of 67.5, Barkley has a completion % of 54% and a qbr of 72.8.

But DJ1BigTymer, I don't see where it says he needs a laundry list of prerequisites before he can attempt a pass. It seems he has just been in some really rigged systems under Kelly and Fox.

NOPE.

If I had a choice of QBs, I would choose one where I would choose a taller one where I wouldn't have to worry about creating passing lanes. I would also chose one with a big arm to take advantage of the studs we have at the WR position. Barkley does not meet those standards. Believe it or not, there are some limitations that comes with having a shorter QB.
