Sean Payton: 'My plan is to definitely be back here' (1 Viewer)

One day, Sean should write a second book to talk about all this stuff. One day, I'd love to know what was really going on. We'll never get the full truth while he's coaching.

My gut tells me there is definitely more going on here than just poor journalism. I agree with you though, we might not ever know until he is actually gone from NOLA.

There was a time (80's and 90's) when I could not get enough Saints football news.
I watched every news broadcast, everyday to see if there was something new to report.
I bought all of the football magazines and well...you get the picture.

I had always hoped they could make a football news network.

Fast forward to the last 10 years or so.
Be careful what you ask for!!

Now we're saturated with so much football that it can become nauseating.
There is so much air time that needs to be consumed and not enough info to cover it.
Mass Media writers, producers, reporters, etc are forced to create stories and drama to fill air time and to get clicks for websites.

I believe the Sean Payton going somewhere else story fits the bill for the vultures to pick on until there's nothing left.

I agree. I'd feel better if I heard, "I will be back." "I plan to be back" still leaves wiggle room if something really good comes along for Payton/Saints. "Plans" change.

That's silly. Do you want him to sign it in blood? He said he plans to be back. Period. He cannot speak on behalf of Benson, Lauscha or Loomis, who all have the authority to make a change. His plans may not be their plans.

Rapoport is covering his tracks now by saying the Rams were not willing to give up a lot in compensation, but that the Saints wanted a lot. Wasn't he the one who said his "source" said the Saints would not ask for much in compensation to let Payton go? Maybe Rapoport should go work for the National Enquirer or Star magazine as they do not require any proof or accountability either.

"Fake News" is not just relegated to the political arena. The sports media is over run with it and this is just another example. It is just headlines generated to get hits on links. Substance has no bearing. For example, why would SP only be linked to the Rams job? Why not the Bills, Chargers, Jags, or Broncos? Last year, there were several HC openings but the media was really hyping SP being linked to the Giants opening even suggesting that it would only cost the Giants a 2nd round pick. Where did that come from? It was invented boy the bloggers, whose headlines would then be picked up by the anchors at eSPN and FSN, all to generate ratings.

One can make the case the media is specifically using big market teams to generate more hits on the links and higher ratings. It is totally aggravating.

Exactly. He is admitting to the notion that his headline was merely an opinion to generate hits on his links and ratings for NFLN. And of course no one calls him out on this backpedaling.

The Rams don't have anything to give up. They mortgaged their next 2 drafts to get Goff iirc and I don't think you can trade players for coaches. They literally have nothing to offer the Saints that is worth the rumors even being released.

I wouldn't be stunned to see Payton leave this offseason despite his comments about his contract. That being said, he also says "he plans on honoring his contract." So if he was to be traded, he technically wouldn't be lying. I just think there has been too many rumors over the past couple of years about Payton looking elsewhere. I honestly believe there is at least some truth to the rumors. How much I don't know. Drew's comments about playing out his contract also give me the same feeling. I think he's unsure about what's about to happen with Payton too.

Yawn..........I wrote off "Sean Payton to the Rams" as soon as it first became a thing.......while others are gonna end up having an anxiety attack stressing over this nonsense all offseason.

Sean will be here as long as Drew is. Once Drew retires that is a different story.

Except all the rumors originate from the same bad source... Rapoport.

Just wish he wouldn't have used the words "my plan". :scared:

It just doesn't sound like what fans want to hear. :covri:
