Since 2008 (Rodgers first season as a starter)

Brees:
142 games
44,922 yards
331 touchdowns
68.2 completion percentage

Rodgers:
135 games
36,498 yards
296 touchdowns
65.3 completion percentage

Brady:
125 games
35,212 yards
259 touchdowns
64.5 completion percentage

Brees has an advantage because of games played, so let's dig a little deeper

Brees:
316 yards per game
2.33 touchdown passes per game

Rodgers:
270 yards per game
2.19 touchdown passes per game

Brady:
282 yards per game
2.07 TD's per game

So to recap

Brees has put up better total numbers and has a better statistical per game average than both Rodgers and Brady over the last 8 seasons.

Yet, Brees has 0 league MVP awards, Rodgers and Brady both have 2. Why? It's gotta be the interceptions

Brees:
138 interceptions
.97 interceptions per game

Rodgers:
72 interceptions
.53 interceptions per game

Brady:
66 interceptions
.53 interceptions per game

Is that really it? The interception thing? I know turnovers are a big deal but it's 138 interceptions in 142 games played. That means on average, Brees doesn't even throw an interception during any given game!

This is not sunshine pumping through Black & Gold lenses, these are just the facts.

Brees is one of the best to ever play the game. IMO, he is THE best. Football is not golf, it's not tennis. It's a team sport that requires a team effort. All I know is what I see with my eyes, and what I've seen since 2006 is the best QB play in professional football for the New Orleans Saints.

Note: this post was inspired by the GOAT QB talk from sports media, currently featuring Rodgers and Brady

It's a wins thing. Every time Brees has a historical season another QB has a slightly better record that season so they flock to whoever QB's that team. Brees will have to throw for 5500 yards 45+ td's AND be 16-0 to win the MVP.

Brady - Has had the easiest road of any QB in the league since he was drafted. He's a great QB but when is the last time they had any worry about losing the division? 2008?

Brees - Has had perhaps the hardest road in the league since he joined the saints or at least since 2011. I would love to see what the other two QB's mentioned would be capable of with historically bad defenses.

Rogers - Keeps showing the world that he can make some of the best throws ever seen while on the move. It's really unreal how he can throw so deep while escaping pressure.

I agree, it's wins. The MVP is ultimately a subjective vote. Drew should have won in 2009, but the Colts had 1 more win and voters worship Peyton Manning. He could have also made an argument for 2011 but the Packers went 15-1 and Rodgers was probably better in a couple of categories, I don't remember.

The Packers and Patriots consistently win their divisions and make the playoffs, which is better representative of AR and TB's accomplishments. We have not been consistent in several years and lose despite Drew's accomplishments, so that overshadows how great he is. It's sad.

How many elite QBs/offenses since the beginning have suffered so much losing? Not many atall...Right there is the anomaly. Seems these other teams through the years had defense come as a secondary option whereas the Saints need the steel curtain to match with their prolific offense.

It's the INT's. How many games have we lost from multiple INT's thrown? It seems with Drew, when it rains, it pours. He has a tendency to get in a pattern with them too, he will throw multiple picks in games over a 4 to 6 game span, then pull out of it.

Most of the picks, if you really look at it, are from deflections rather than bad throws. Either a lineman tips at the LOS, or the wide receiver doesn't get his hands on the ball. Add to that, Drew knowing he can fit the ball into the tiniest of windows, and you have a recipe for a pick. Drew can fit the ball in, but if the receiver misses, the defenders are right there to make a play. It is what it is.

Give that guy a top 16 defense, and a solid Oline, and he will get us another couple of championships.
They can have the MVP consolation prizes.

yes, it is a win thing. If the saints can ever win 12+ games again, maybe they'll consider him

I thought this topic would be about comparing playoff games. Brady has won something like 23 playoff games. They've been in the AFC championship game 6 times in a row. Ugh. I'm so jealous of that.

These things tend to happen when:
A. You have to drive 90+ yards every drive.
B. You don't trust your defense, even when they are playing well.

This long stretch of futility would naturally be placed in the lap of Roger Goodell, but they had that 11-5 season right after bountygate to remove that talk, and it's been down hill ever since without nary a finger pointed at the league's handling of bountygate and what that means to the franchise in the long haul.

Anyone remember Deacon Jones arguably the dirtiest and meanest player ever was slotted on ESPN to talk about how dirty and disgraceful the Saints were for bountygate? People need to wth up haha

It's a team sport though. And it's not like Pats and Packers haven't had their ups and downs just like the Saints have. Obviously the Saints haven't been in contention the last few seasons so Brees gets no MVP talk. But what about 06, 09, and 11? I know, beating a dead horse, but still.

Patriots have been the only team in the AFC East with a pulse since 2000. Jets had two good years, and they had Mark freaking Sanchez at QB. Come on. NFC South is on the verge of having another team in the Super Bowl. Saints won it it 09, Panthers made it last year. Not to mention Tampa won in 2002 and Panthers played the Pats to the wire the next season.

If the Saints were one of the final four teams playing the media would be talking about Brees and pointing out how statistically he's put up numbers just as good as anyone else. But they don't talk about guys sitting at home on the couch. Montana and Elway consistently got talked about more than Marino at this time of year as well.

But whenever people here post stats without posting attempts, I'm sorry, it's ridiculous. I would hope a guy who throws way more than others puts up more yards, if you want to make the argument he's the GOAT. YPA should be one of the first statistics mentioned in any qb comparison imo.

As an example does anyone really think 2009 was one of Drew's worst years because it was some of his least yardage wise? It was his best at YPA.

But wanna know who threw for the most yards in 2009? Matt Schaub. But guess who threw the most passes?

So I'm sorry. Drew is a great qb, one of the greatest of all time. But I'm tired of hearing how just because he throws for a lot of yards with generally way more attempts that unequivocally makes him better.
