Not one of those Trade him threads ... But I can't help looking at the final 4 and not cringe at the fact that its not ... Brady , Roethlisberger , Rodgers , Brees left.

4 of the greatest QB's of all time , squaring off for their legacies in all of their glory. He deserves to be on a Team that wins this late in his career.

Used to be having an Elite QB guaranteed a Hosted Playoff game , yet we have arrived 3 times in a row at not even sniffing the playoffs.

What are we doing so wrong ?

Payton needs to check his ego at the door with the smug remarks , holding everyone accountable punishable by death besides of coarse himself.

I just want to see Drew in a meaningful game one last time before he sails off.

If there is any positive ... Super teams the last 2 years seem to come out of the NFC south.

Maybe next year is our turn.

After a successful 2013 they went all in on 2014 and it backfired. They've been cleaning up the mess that followed since and seem to be sitting perfectly to compete for a championship next season as long as they make the necessary acquisitions.

I think they'll turn the corner next season, the team is playing for each other they just need the talent in key areas and a little luck next season.

Saying that, I feel you on Drew. I feel like some of the best seasons for a QB in NFL history have been wasted because of historically bad defenses here. Drew has already said that next season is a make or break. If the team doesn't have success next year, expect to see Drew either retire or go to a team he feels will give him his 2nd ring.

Couldn't have put this better myself.

I am still excited for the Super Bowl because I like all teams left (Obviously excluding Atlanta) and thing NE/PIT vs GB will be an epic super bowl.

But how awesome would this have been...

New England v Pittsburgh
New Orleans v Green Bay

Battle of 4 elite Quarterbacks, nearing the end of their careers. Ahh such a shame.

But like MeachemDat mentioned as well as Drew. Next year is make or break. I wouldn't blame Drew for retiring or leaving us. He's my favourite player and if the chance for him came to either retire or get a ring else where I would choose the latter, he deserves it.

We're doing this exercise again? Jesus. Meachemdat covered it already but, come on. Anyone who's been paying attention knew that this was the second year of rebuilding after 2014 blew up in their faces thinking they were just a player or two away from a championship. They've cleaned up the books and the locker room, fired 5 coaches, had two successful drafts in a row (8/9 players from 2015's draft still on the team - all 5 from last year) have stopped throwing money away in FA (and kicking the can down the road - we took our medicine for those bad deals), and are set up to go into FA/the draft with a little breathing room for the first time in years.

Drew deserves better and he's getting it. It just doesn't happen overnight. 2017 is his year. The offense is already in a position where they can only get better and the defense - while very young and injured - showed that they were starting to mesh in the second half of the season (especially in the 2nd half of games...too bad the first half was so bad lots of times) and actually improved 6 spots as a unit. I think they'd have improved a couple more slots without all the injuries and we could have even snuck into the playoffs if they'd not been SOOOO injured to start the year. We lost three games on fluky ST plays/bad officiating. (All those injuries on defense also impacts the quality of special teams play too.) Turn those into W's next year and we're in the post season. Once the post season starts, all bets are off. Green Bay is about to have knocked off the #1 and #2 seeds in back to back weeks on their way to the super bowl.

I'm not seeing Drew going somewhere else as a mercenary unless he plans on leaving his family behind. He's got 4 school aged kids, owns multiple businesses here and just bought something like 65 Dunkin Donuts shops to open in the state with a group of investors.

He says he's going to play until he's 45 and I think he's 100% serious. With the rules protecting quarterbacks and the way he's taken care of himself (and still does) I think it's totally doable (**Maybe not 45, but past 40 without a problem**). Everyone laughs when he says it but if you've ever seen him say it, he looks dead serious. Maybe he will go play somewhere else, but I doubt we ever show him the door while he's still got gas left in the tank and we've got one thing no one else can offer him - he's already home.

2017 is the make or break year. If we do well in 2017, then I see SP and Brees staying here for at least until Brees retires. If 2017 doesn't go well, then Brees probably looks for another team to give him another shot before his playing days are over.

2017 will either be very depressing or very exciting with no middle ground for us Saints fans. There will be no "the team is rebuilding" hope that we're hanging onto right now.

I definitely don't think we will part with him, but I wouldn't say it's impossible to see him do what Manning did and do one more push to cement his legacy. That would only be if he saw no improvement from the team next year. Like he said "You can only say, next year so many times".

Deserves better? He is a multi-millionaire playing a kids game? What more do you want?

What about Dan Marino - did you cry tears over him?
Jim Kelly?
Fran Tarkenton?
Ken Anderson?
Warren Moon?
etc... etc...
... all great quarterbacks. They all worked hard to get where they got, but "Deserves" got nothing to do with it.

It is a game. It is a game where 11 people have to execute.

P.S. We finally have a decent coach, so my advice is to get off Payton's jockstrap. I never saw him fumble, drop a catch or overthrow a receiver - much less miss a tackle or be in the wrong alignment.

Drew deserves better? We as fans deserve better. Come on now he's made a fortune here and has a Super Bowl ring to boot. I don't feel sorry for him at all. Not all QBs can play for an organization like the Pats.

I think the fans and the saints deserve better, not Drew. Drew is part of the team, and they win and lose as a team.

From a moral sense, Drew doesn't 'deserve' anything. He's on the team and has made a fortune. And one can argue that that fortune has directly contributed to his lack of continued winning.

That said, there's something bigger with regard to his talent and quality of play. Just as Marino didn't win a championship, it's a bit of a shame if Drew doesn't get a couple of shots at the trophy towards the end of his career. It's just an inherent negative if something so good doesn't reach its potential.

It's a bummer. But it's not unfair nor an injustice.

Couldn't have said it better. 2017 or bust.

Brees cant play defemse to.

Few humans alive can. The last great defemse master left his Algonquin village one morning and simply never returned. It is said that, on a quiet night, you can still hear his cadence echoing across the lakes...
