I think OJ Howard could be the BPA when we pick in the first round. What would you think about drafting him there? I'm not quite sure how I would feel about it. 2nd round would be a no brainer, but he's not going to last that long.

If Garrett, Allen, Foster, Barnett, Thomas, Hooker, Adams, Fournette, and Cook all go top 10, I think BPA would be Howard or a CB. Would you rather have one of the top CBs or OJ Howard at 11?

I really like Howard, but not at 11. I know he is hyped as a first round pick. Who is going to select him in the first round? He doesn't have the college production to back up such a high pick, through no fault of his own.

I could see Baltimore picking him in the first just to throw a team out there. I think teams will be more willing to overlook a guy being underutilized in college after the way Michael Thomas played last year.

I think Howard is a top 10 talent. But we need defense and we are paying Fleener 7 million a year so I doubt we would pick him. I definitely wouldn't be upset if we did though. Especially if most of the top defensive players go top 10.

PS: Sticks and stones can break my bones, but you can shove your red thumbs... Lol

As long as we went pass rusher in the second and sign a good guard in free agency, I'd be fine with the pick.

OJ Howard?

First pick at 11?

A tight end?

That played for an incredible team and put up very little numbers.

At 11?

With a top 5 offense and a bottom 5 defense already in place, we add a TE with the first pick?

After spending big money on a TE last year, and his contract is in place for a few years.

I will give you 1000000-1 odds we do not select OJ Howard at 11.

Grab that offensive line guy from the cowboys, Ron? Draft full defense for 2 rounds, then more than likely do some weird trade to grab another 2nd round ****** cb. After that draft an ACTUAL TE. I like that 6'7 guy from somewhere with purple uniforms I saw earlier. someone who can catch plz. Then use the rest on whatevs needed.

NO............NO.............NO.............and NO!!! If the Saints go any way but defense or offensive line with the 11th pick then it would be a HUGE waste of the 11th pick!!!

The Saints offense is fine..........in the top 5 year in and year out!!!

What is it that people don't understand about the DEFENSE NEEDING talent??? I don't get it!!:idunno:

I had a similar thought. He's a top 20 talent and rising. If the Saints grade him higher than Foster or Solomon, then I'm all for grabbing Howard. A lot will depend on who the Saints sign in FA on the defensive side of the ball.

Also, I think picking Watson would make sense if he's still on the board. It would shock a lot of people but it's not illogical.

How about grabbing martellus Bennett? Then drop the hell out of fleeter. I refuse to waste brees arm on someone that's not trying to catch anything in traffic.

I remember last off-season, there was alot of hype surrounding Jake Butt. I didn't watch many Michigan games, so can anyone tell me why his stock has dropped so much?

I like OJ Howard alot as a prospect, but I think this board will melt if we take a TE with our first. I wouldn't mind taking one in the mid rounds. Someone like Gerald Everett would be a nice addition.

Tight Ends are valued about as much as RBs in the draft. Actually, probably worse. Most of the current best pass catching TE's were drafted in the 2nd to 3rd rounds I believe. With the ridiculous amount of high quality passrushers (a highly valued commodity), I'd be shocked if a team valued him so high. I don't think he's BPA at 11, even for a need based team, as far as talent/value goes, because you'd get far more bang for your buck investing in a WR, OL, QB, DE, and probably a few other positions than paying a top 20 rookie salary for a TE. He's very good, but at a position that doesn't require much capital to find an adequate veteran replacement in FA. The references to college production concerns are very valid as well, and I don't think Mike Thomas' success, nor anyone else's will ever change that, because Mike Thomas isn't exactly the first NFL player who's NFL production greatly outshined his time in the NCAA due to misuse/lack of opportunity. For every outlier like Thomas, there's a bible of guys who continue on with their production falling short of perceived potential.

I accept your odds and bet a $1.00 that the Saints will pick him at 11. So we have a bet, right?

Select a player to improve the defense at no.11, even if Howard is BPA. We could probably find a good tight-end in the later rounds of the draft.

Many of his big plays at Bama relied on his speed combined with busted coverages. His system could have been a major factor but he seems fairly similar as a receiver to Fleener with significantly better blocking ability. Good speed and solid hands for his size with inconsistent ability to make contested catches over the middle or as jump balls in game situations.

I'd say he's a balanced 1st round TE prospect with enough holes in his game to scare me out of picking him in the top 20. He seems more along the lines of a slower Vernon Davis to me, straight line speed TE that isn't the jump ball, large catch radius TE that Gronk or Graham is.

I think he will be good pro on a run heavy team. He offers more as a blocker than most TE's with his speed. Get him on a run heavy team, get the safety to bite on a PA, and he is gone. Ideal PA guy in my opinion. Would be significantly underutilized here.

He got injured and didn't show scouts as much continued improvement this year, particularly in the run-blocking department. People were hoping he'd be much more balanced a prospect.
