Horizon Zero Dawn (1 Viewer)

well, this game is pretty awesome...

GOTY? probably but Red Dead 2 is due at the end of the year so....

I've spent the last month or so playing Twilight Princess HD. I was going to grab a Switch at launch but then decided to distract myself with this for a while instead. Whoa this game looks awesome after coming from an older game. I've only just made it through some of the training sequences. But I'm impressed so far.

No Man's Sky 2.0?

So far it's entertaining. The acting is no where near as good as something like Uncharted. And there's a small issue with occasional lip syncing. But it's otherwise very pretty and the storyline just got pretty compelling. I played for several hours tonight and never felt like the game gave me much time to breathe.

I agree about the audio syncing and the voice acting is definitely on the weak side...but the rest of the game is fantastic

the gameplay is top notch...there is clear influence from games like Far Cry, Tomb Raider, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed but it doesn't feel old...

the story is pretty good and has a Matrix like vibe to it

It's basically a love child between tomb raider and far cry. I'm not burnt out on the genre because I've only played a couple of its type. But I can understand the gripe that maybe this game missed an opportunity to be unique and special by being so formulaic in the gameplay style.

EDIT: I will say, however, that some of the combat nuances are freaking incredible. I fought my first corrupter last night in an enclosed area. The time shift thing where you can slow down to focus a shot is SO awesome.

Watching this one on Twitch and the fights do look awesome. How they could be so bad with animating dialog is bizarre though. I mean so many games have done it, how could someone not notice and fire the guy in charge of that. Still way better to get the fighting movement and story right and bungle that than any of the other parts, just an annoying blemish because it seems like games have been doing it right for more than 10 years now.

It makes you appreciate something like Zelda that avoids it altogether and puts their money elsewhere. Maybe it's the issue of too many dialogue trees, but then again, I don't remember Mass Effect being this poor at it. It's a pretty big blemish that keeps the game from being categorized as great.

So, overall a solid game? Just weak on the dialogue acting/sync? I might still pick this up down the road.

That's sad, after experiencing so many great story driven games such as The Witcher 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Mass Effect 3, etc.

Freddie Prince Jr did an interview for Dragon Age Inquisition (he's the voice of the Iron Bull), and said he enjoys games and wanted to make sure he put in a real good performance. He said something like, it's sad when you play a game and you can totally tell the voice talent mailed it in and just doesn't care.

I'm having fun with the game so far. I've just finished my first cauldron experience and I've been going around collecting items. I've really enjoyed finding the vantage spots, showing what the world looked like prior etc etc. The game is fairly repetitive so far though and I wish there was a larger variety of animals and dinobots. This isn't GOTY material at all, unless it suddenly takes on a sudden upswing, but its still solid fun.

Assassins Creed repetition or Shadow of Mordor Repetition? (I consider SoM to be far worse).

there are actually plenty of different types of machines as you progress....some of them are pretty difficult to take down

I don't find it to be any more repetitive than most open world RPG type games...go find the thing or kill the bad things...pretty typical but not overdone

I agree that it's probably not a GOTY but it's definitely a solid 9/10 and a good showing from a developer who previously made FPS only

also, Commander Zavala :9:

It's easily as good or better than something like Tomb Raider. It's not as good in the acting department as Mass Effect and no where near as good as The Last of Us or Uncharted. But the latter do not have dialogue choices etc, so that's not really fair.

The story line is pretty compelling in my opinion and the game looks incredible. My growing complaint is the pacing. The world is pretty amazing to observe. But it's nearly impossible to just ride your 'horse' and look around without running into serious baddies. Whereas you might encounter bad guys in a typical Zelda game and kill them with one button mash, every single encounter can quickly get out of hand in this game. So far there's been very little room to breathe. It's too dense with action, which I suppose is an odd complaint.

In the end it's a must buy. The graphics are probably the best on the PS4 so far. The combat is pretty freaking awesome. There's just a few things that keep it from being a perfect execution, which is a bummer. But every PS4 owner should buy this game. (unless you're worried about cultural appropriation ;))
