If our offense keeps up its pace, can it go down as a legendary one? (1 Viewer)

Ala, "The Greatest Show on Turf"?

We are putting up some big numbers, have some big playmakers, and could possibly break the passing yards record.

There's a few legendary defenses, but very few legendary offenses.

Obviously, to truly be considered legendary, you have to get atleast win a Super Bowl, but does our offense has the makings of an historic one?

I can honestly see people looking back years from now and thinking..."Wow...Drew Brees, Deuce McAllister, Joe Horn, Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, Reggie Bush, and Jammal Brown anchoring the line."

Ask the same question in about 3 years. We'll be in a much better position to answer it accurately by then... Just like the Romo phenomenom - Too early to tell.

Only if it wins a championship. People remember the Rams O because it led them to playoff success (that and it was a fairly recent thing). Hardly anyone outside of Saints fans and local media remember the Saints defense in the late 80's/early 90's because ultimately, they don't have anything to show for it.

People remember the '85 Bears because they won a championship.

Very astute, Random Fan... Simple and to the point.

Agreed. I won't be able to make a judgement about this team's greatness until they win some post season games. It's hard for us Saints fans to understand this, but ultimately, you are judged by what you do in the post season. What teams do in the regular season is completely forgotten after week 1 of the playoffs. I can not wait until January. It's going to be great to watch if we get in. Our offense is tough to stop.

We won't match the Greatest Show of Turf. That offense was memorable more for the ridiculous amount of points it put up more-so then the yards. We're well behind pace in terms of points scored.

We won't match them this year, LSSpam, but who knows... With a year under their belt, the addition of a strong blocking tight end with hands (I know I'm asking for alot there), with an NFL seasoned Reggie Bush, and a Defense next year that can create turnovers, and produce more 3 and outs, it could translate into more ppg... You just never know.

They're certainly on the right path.

We have to execute better in the red zone which basically means we have to improve our power rushing attack. I've seen too many drives stall or end with turnovers inside the 20 this year. Great offenses score TDs automatically when inside the 20, usually with a good running game.

Agreed... We saw a move in that direction last week against Hotlanta. I think I read here earlier in the week that Payton emphasized red zone blocking with the O line leading up to the Hotlanta game.

Let's just see if the trend we saw against Atlanta continues for the next five weeks and into January.

Maybe, but if it's a question of this season going down as "legendary" in much the same way the 85 Bears D is (but not the 84 or 86) then no, I don't believe it will.

No, it won't be this season, but I don't think "the greatest show on turf" was a one year project either. I may be wrong, but I don't think so....

If Devery continues to improve at the rate he is going right now, our offense will be loaded. Colston, Deuce, Reggie, Horn, Devery, and oh yeah....That Brees guy.

That's just scary.

It's very scary - of course, in a good kind of way. Yet, at the rate Sean is developing this team, it's definitely not out of the realm of probability... Yes, even the lowly Saints can develop into a dominant franchise... That's the sweetest part.

If I remember correctly, it was Tory Holt's rookie season when the Rams won the superbowl. So you're right. They were good that first year together, but they continued to develop until they were virtually unstoppable, and then Haslett beat them and laid down the blue print for holding them down. Bellicheck and the Patriots knocked them off in their next superbowl appearance by playing their WRs very physically.

Time will tell but right now I have this offense rated slightly below the 2002 Saints offense. That offense averaged more points mainly because we had a stronger O-Line anchored by Victor Riley (strong run blocker) and Kyle Turley and the fact that young Duece behind that line was more dangerous than older Duece and Reggie behind our current line which made that offense much more effective in the red zone than our current team.

That being said, the sky's the limit with this offense with Payton calling the plays.
