Greta Van Fleet (formerly 'some kids that sound like Led Zeppelin') (1 Viewer)

About the same age as Robert Plant and Bonzo when they started touring. I think Robert Plant turned 20 during their first tour.

A copy of the style, and not bad on their own. However they don't grove. They are too stiff. People focus on Bonham's power, but the groove he had with the power was exceptional. The synchronize with John Paul Jones put a solid floor that both Page and Plant could take their times to shine, yet not overpower. The singer was trying to hard to take the accent points Plant had without the softer subleness that Plant did in a lot of areas, and the reason why at 70 he can still perform and sing well where many other singers voices are completely shot. Sure he's lost the range he had but the style he always had is still there wether it's Zeppelin at the O2 or his work with Alison Krauss. The guitar player while having some raw talent, doesn't have Page's light touch. Yes I know Page was a tremendously sloppy player. But the feelings and emotion he got these guys just don't have. It's like a good cover. It's notes are there. The emotion and style is not.

I remember hearing this song a few months back. I didn't realize how young they were. Hopefully in the future that guy learns how to write actual lyrics and not just barely comprehensible jibberish. He should probably take some frontman lessons from Plant too.

Also, was this at a freaking talent show or something? Why is everyone in the crowd sitting?

The crowd sucked!

I listened to their EP tonight in my man cave shooting pool with the game on. It's good - three of the four songs are totally listenable - they rock. I don't think the lyrics are annoyingly bad, they fit the simple blues rock structure that makes that sound.

I think it's fun - and it works for me. The keys/synth fade in Flower Power is certainly reminiscent of Thank You. How often can you say that when listening to new music?!

Yeah, I think they are super talented, don't get me wrong. I just think when he grows up a bit he'll probably be putting some more intelligent lyrics to the music. It's definitely exciting to see bands that are committed to rocknroll.

Indeed - and not doing it by being a garage punk band or Pavement.

Hey girl stop what you're doin'!
Hey girl you'll drive me to ruin.
I don't know what it is that I like about you
But I like it a lot.
Won't let me hold you
Let me feel your lovin' charms.

Communication Breakdown
It's always the same
I'm having a nervous breakdown
Drive me insane!

Hey girl I got something I think you ought to know.
Hey babe I wanna tell you that I love you so.
I wanna hold you in my arms, yeah!
I'm never gonna let you go,
'Cause I like your charms

I think that's all fair. But they're young and still feeling their way. Maybe this is as good as it will get or maybe it's a launching point for something cool that they can sustain. It almost goes without saying that yes, they're missing some elements that Led Zeppelin had. It's ******* Led Zeppelin
