N/S Teddy Bridgewater may not have a home in New York much longer. (1 Viewer)

In defense of Savage, he was great in the Wonder Years.

I’d love to have Teddy as a back up, but I don’t think he’s wanting to be a backup, if healthy.

If Bridgewater was healthy, his phone wouldn't stop ringing, and teams would be throwing money at him.

And Bridgewater would? I doubt we are going after him.
Look at post #11 in this thread, apparently he can lead a team to 11 wins.

He had 15 tds in his pro Bowl year, but don’t forget, in his pro bowl year he wasn’t asked to throw as much because he had Adrian Peterson and Jerick McKinnon to hand off to, and when the team got within 10 yards of the end zone they went from pass to run, so 72% of all touchdowns were run plays.

He is a good qb who’s completion percentage and rating aren’t that far off from the Brees’, Rodgers’, and Brady’s of the world. He just needs more coaching.

It was the first preseason game. Everyone is overreacting. Savage/Hill need more time to settle in.

I think Savage is on the roster because, more than anything, Brees likes a veteran backup to bounce ideas off of. Could Bridgewater fill that role? Has he seen/played enough football?

Tom Savage college attempts 757
Teddy Bridgewater college attempts 1,142

Tom Savage NFL attempts: 315
Teddy Bridgewater NFL attempts: 851

But Savage seems to be cool with being a backup. Does Bridgewater? I wouldn't think so. If he is then he'd be worth a look. We only need a mediocre backup to Brees until we're actually looking for his successor and that may take a couple years to do. We could coach up a "mediocre" backup into being a good QB while Brees is still playing too. The backup just has to be willing to be patient and Bridgewater has already had a taste of being the #1 guy. I don't know if he'd be down to wait in line.

I have no idea if he's willing to be a backup. I really don't care either way, I thought Savage looked good yesterday with the exception of missing Kamara on that wide open play.

I was just pointing out that Bridgewater actually has more experience than Savage because when I first read brockmeaux's post I was like yeah that makes sense but then when I actually looked at it Teddy and Tom have both been in the league since 2014 with Teddy starting 3 times as many NFL games and basically being a starter his entire college career while Savage bounced around 3 different colleges trying to find a starting spot.

Then I was thinking why did both brock and I automatically assume that Savage is more "experienced" than Teddy and at first I thought it's because we are racist jerks. But then I realized neither of us have those kinds of posts on here and it dawned on me. WE ARE but not in the way I was thinking. We just lumped Savage in with all those other faceless white Texans QB's so the TJ Yates/Ryan Mallet/Brandon Weeden/Brain Hoyer/Dan Olversksyslsikss all blended together to make us think Savage has been in the league for like 10 years. :hihi::hihi:

I don’t think Teddy is in a position to be demanding anything. The Saints might even be ideal for him - a chance to continue to recover (perhaps mentally now more than physically) in a QB friendly system with a GOAT mentor who will be vacating the starting job in a couple of years.

I’m not saying I want Teddy to be a Saint. I’m just making the case of why it might be appealing to him to come here. If the Jets are looking to move or release him, the reality for Teddy is that a starting job is not in the cards for at least 2018 - and will likely only happen in 2019 or beyond if he goes somewhere and wins the job (or gets it by injury). No one is going to bring him in as a starter.

His concern now is staying in the league.

I don’t know but I’d feel more comfortable with him in there than what I saw last night. I doubt we’re making a play for him either but I’d understand if we did.

Whether we would pursue or not I just think if he’s healthy he will want to start. Or at least to go to a place where he has the chance to start.

There isn’t a QB in the nfl that doesn’t want to start. There’s also reality.

While I get the point there are exceptions to every rule Chuck. I think Chase seems to enjoy his gig pretty well.

And if healthy, imo, Teddy is a starter.

I totally agree.

Honestly, though, I think the Saints are probably one of the last teams in the league to be looking for Bridgewater or any other QB since we've already got 4 on the roster with Barrett and Hill both being able to tuck and run like Bridgeovertroubledwater. (My apologies for the stupidity - I had to get it out of my system. I think it every time I see or hear his name.)

I think he'll end up on a roster somewhere if he is cut loose. There are so many quarterback starved teams in the league that he's a valuable commodity. Even though it's a small sample, he's a proven winner as a starting QB. (The whole "But he had AD and McKinnon (lol) to lean on while he was *just* a game manager" argument is silly too. He played and won the games on the schedule. How they were won is basically irrelevant.) He does have a lot to prove after that injury though. Shredding your knee like he did is something he's going to have to prove in live game action. Even practice can't show how healthy the knee is (physically and mentally).
