Let's talk about the Browns...Watched them yesterday (2 Viewers)

I have to disagree with your posts. I have watched almost every browns game for the past 5 years and can tell you that the browns have been really bad for the past 4 years but laat year you could see a marked improvement in their overall performance. They just had a really bad qb that couldnt hit water if he fell out of a boat. His name is deshaun kizer and if you are not familiar with him but watched the green bay chicago game last night he was the hot garbage that came in as rodgers replacement qb. Tyrod is a much better qb than kizer is, and i think just because you watched a game that was played in a monsoon yesterday with winds gusting to 40 mph is an accurate definition of how good or bad the Browns truly are is an inaccurate assumption. We are going to get a completly different team this Sunday in the dome where the weather and field is not a factor. I also disagree with your statement that our ol is excellent. I saw drew having to consistently scramble in the pocket to buy time for the recievers to get open. I think the browns defensive line is going to cause us some serious headaches Sunday. In addition to that I am worried with how poorly our entire defense played yesterday if thats the same defense that shows up this Sunday. Then Tyrod is going to have similar success that fitzpatrick had. I hope we get our defense turned around because even though the browns tied the steelers yesterday that was a moral victory for them and gave the whole team a little bit of confidence and swagger and that can make a team very dangerous ala the Saints defense last year

A marked improvement to 0-16.

I actually have made the point that they were better last year if not for their HC. They could of won 5-6 games that they ended up blowing with stupid coaching decisions. I watch a lot of every team because I bet on games.

That doesn't make them a good team.

I've seen the game this upcoming Sunday too many times. I know how this is going to go.

New Orleans will get the ball first. First three plays, be it run or pass will be gains of like 9, 13 and 10 yards. We'll think all is right with the world. Then a run will be stuffed, there will be an incomplete pass and Brees will get sacked - this is worth noting for later.

We'll punt, there will be no return and the defense will take the field.

There will be two huge runs, we'll now all think, "Here we go again" and then Taylor will hit Gordon for a TD. Before most of us have opened our beer we'll be behind.

This MIGHT be a wakeup call. Maybe. Losing to the Bucs won't be. Every single player except for Brees left that game yesterday thinking, "We lost by one score in week one, so what, we'll kill Cleveland next week."

At this point, because they are facing a team that hasn't won in a zillion years, it will be back and forth. The Browns won't go up by 20 or whatever. At one point, however, Cleveland will have a drive extended as the refs flag contact on the QB. The same sack the Browns got early will now be flagged against us because the refs will initially forget what a stupid rule it is. But once Garrett or whoever hits Brees in the first quarter, it will trigger their memory and they will be looking to flag literally any contact after that.

It will be a one score game going into the 4th quarter and it would not surprise me if Cleveland won because the Saints have taken the first half of September off for the last five years. I hope I'm wrong, but come on - those of us who have been watching this team since the 80s know that what I described is not that crazy. :)

1. Gordon barely played...the one pass he got was an insane end zone catch. He’s as good as Mike Evans.

2. Field conditions were AWFUL. There is no way you can take anything away from Taylor and that offense. Taylor could easily light this defense up if the week 1 Saints defense shows up.

3. The Browns running game is OK, at least as good as the Bucs. Duke Johnson could be a big problem for our LBs.

4. The Saints can and will score on the Browns. But will it be enough?

5. Home field advantage is overrated. Saints fans are subconsciously expecting to lose this game. The moment something doesn’t go right...the dome will get quite quick and the Saints will feed off of the negative energy. I honestly wished that the Saints were playing in Cleveland this week.

If you want to know how bad yesterday was...we're legitimately discussing what we need to do in order to beat the BROWNS...at HOME.

I know it's the NFL, but this team is 1-31-1 in the last 2 years, plus week 1. We don't belong anywhere near the playoffs if we struggle to win this one.

I agree that they could have won 5-6 games last year as well and not all of it was due to coaching. But if you would have watched the season before that you couldn't honestly say that about the Browns.

And if we do struggle this year...there is no reward of a high draft pick. We have to win. There is no silver lining...only suck if we don’t win.

I’m just glad to be talking about next week’s game. Thanks for the post

If you watched our starting defense in the preseason they played similar to what you saw yesterday. In our third game against the Chargers, we could not stop the run against their second string RB. Our pass defense was similar to what you saw yesterday when our when our starting defense was in. The only thing that was encouraging during the preseason was when both teams starters were not in the game. I wanted to believe that it would be different once the regular season started but in the back of my mind I could not forget about what I saw in preseason. I know it is only one player but I think that our defense plays better when Robertson is on the field. Klein should not be starting. That one example of player evaluation is one of many that I can use as an example, not to mention Stupar not being on our roster. Last year the Saints run defense was where our weakness was. I thought for sure they would look for a run stuffing NT. I have felt that way for years. I remember when we had Hollis Thomas, our run defense was stout. John Jenkins was the last time we tried to address that position. That is because we were going to a 3-4 defense but he did not work out. Akiem Hicks was another player that we drafted and played well but when the rest of our defense was not up to par he did not give the same effort, as he stated in an article I read after he left the Saints. He played well for the Pats and with the Bears and a good group of players around him he was dominating at times last night. I love the Saints and will always be a huge fan but I am also realistic. I know it was only one game and they turned it around last year. I have to admit that Fitzgerald played one of his best games of his career and he stated that this was the best group of receivers he has ever worked with. Our defense looked awful and I wonder if they were reading about how well they were expected to play this year and thought all they had to do was show up. Hopefully yesterday was a wakeup call.

I don't think so. Our OL is simply excellent. The Bucs have a top 5 DL and for the most part, the OL still dominated them. Ben also held onto the ball way too long yesterday, trying to run around. Brees won't do that.

That's one of my areas of least concern.
You can’t forget about Garrett, no matter how good an offensive line may be.

Who said anything about forgetting him? I expect us to game plan and play well against him.
You said above that he was one of your “least concerns”, a player that disruptive is always gonna be a main concern, regardless of how good the o-line usually is. I guess we will agree to disagree on this one.

And I stand by it. Out of all the issues, our ability to block an edge rusher over the LT is the least of my concerns.

Not because I'm forgetting about him but because I think we can do it.
