Chargers may not be in L.A. for long (1 Viewer)

LA is definitely supporting the Rams right now so the "LA cant support a team" narrative is false. They just don't care for the chargers. It was always a Rams/Raiders town.
I remember watching the Thursday night game a few weeks ago in LA, and it looked and sounded like the crowd was, at best, 50/50 with Vikings fans. It looked like the Saints/Falcons games in Atlanta.

This. The Rams are kicking butt in L.A. yet there's all these posts about "L.A. don't like the NFL/they don't deserve a team"

The Raiders would have so much support if they would've moved back to L.A. instead of going to Vegas.

2017 opener after a 4-12 season...

They won 46-9. This was the week after...

How bad were the Rams before 2017?

I don't think it's fair to single out these fans whom didn't have a team for over 20 years. A team that don't make the playoffs 10+ years and is usually a dumpster fire or middle of the road, isn't going to be selling out all their games. NFL tickets are expensive and most people aren't going to want to pay outrageous money to watch a bunch of losers unless they are die hard fans. The Rams won their SB in St. Louis and I still feel bad for their fans having to watch them leave.

It also don't help that the Coliseum is not built for NFL games. One of the most wide reports in 2016 and 2017 was from fans talking about how the stadium was too small for an NFL game and generally a crappy experience. But at least their stadium is not loaded completely with opposing fans cheering the road team. Every Chargers game so far in L.A. has been like a road game for them.

The egg should be on Dean Spanos face, not just Goodell. Spanos is the billionaire who refused to pay for his own stadium in San Diego. I don't blame the people of San Diego whatsoever for putting their foot down and telling a billionaire to fund his own stadium. Goodell is definitely to blame for helping them move, but this was solely on Spanos who forced this. The Chargers deserve to be embarrassed in L.A. and have that little soccer stadium filled with opposing fans every week.

Love seeing the NFL Brass squirm.

This made no sense to me.

"So far this season, the Chargers are last in the NFL in average attendance at 25,370 due, in large part, to their small venue."

The venue holds 27000. If they averaged 27000 then I could agree but seeing they are below what the venue can seat I find it odd they would blame the venue for the low attendance.

I live in LA and went to the Rams game last year and Chargers preseason game this year. BOTH games I was shocked at how many people I saw in black and gold. It really almost felt like a home game.

Also, its very very true about the make-up of the population here. People are from all over and no one switches teams to start cheering for LA all of the sudden. Every team is represented pretty heavily out here from what I've seen.

The different is that both of those teams have a history in LA. The Chargers don’t.

I think the league is slowly realizing that a big problem is coming - the Chargers, if they stay the course, will be playing in an 80,000 seat stadium (or whatever it is) with 25,000 fans in it. It’s going to be ugly.

People of LA would rather go to MLS games, Lakers games even when they have losing season, Dodgers/Angels games, and USC football before NFL games.

I honestly think CBS is the main force behind the two team L.A. deal.
Just from a ratings perspective the NFC has the most known teams. The NFC East, Bears, Packers, 49ers, Rams, Seahawks, Saints.
Colin Cowherd did a segment a year or two ago about it. The NFC is way more valuable than the AFC. To use a phrase from that segment, Even the small market NFC teams are national brands.
And that brings me to CBS, the holder of the AFC rights. They need the L.A. market the most. Literally the only marquee franchises they have are the Patriots, Steelers, Broncos, and Raiders.
This was a main driving force behind trading games between networks, like the Saints/Giants NFC game going to CBS.
The Chargers deal has more to do with CBS not losing out on the second biggest TV market than anything.

Mexico City rumors. Saint Jack have you heard anything about Mexico? Jags going to London?
Shad Khan's deal with Wembly fell through. I haven't heard anything about Mexico City though.

Irrelevant. If they were such a big buzz about moving back to Los Angeles, that stadium would’ve been packed the first game back, but it wasn’t. And is wasn’t for the next 7 home games in 2016. And again it wasn’t for the season opener in 2017 or the next few games until there was a lengthy win streak involved.

Like I said, any city can support a winner. Regardless, the Rams will ALWAYS be 3rd fiddle to the Dodgers and the Lakers. And if you want to include NCAA, they’ll fall to the 4th or 5th fiddle when you include USC (who routinely packs that same stadium that “isn’t built for football”) and UCLA.

The Los Angeles market is nothing but front runners.

The team wasn't drawing in St. Louis. That city is a Cardinals town.
