N/S Jaguars Moving To London A Possibility (1 Viewer)

That would be really terrible for that already crappy division. IT DOOMS THE DIVISION! No one in the NFL is going to want to go to any of those teams, knowing they got a big time traveling episode to play the Jags. And what about the Jags? Talk about living out of a suitcase. Suppose they have a two string of road game, then a week home, then another road game, then a bye, then a road game...?? I'd be tempted to phone it in quick.

My thoughts too, yet I’ve been thinking if any team goes it will be them. The shield wants a team there, badly. International growth and all.

I think that will be a harder sell (to the players of the team that goes) than door to door vacuum cleaner sales. ?

B/C NFL Europe worked out so well.

Oh I agree. I’m not an advocate of the potential move, just pointing out that they will want a team there and have wanted that.
They want to sell tickets there. There's a distinct difference. They're happy stringing along the UK fans for now with dreams of their own franchise, as they've done for about 10 years now.

I wasn't meaning anything negative toward your post.

I don't think a there is enough of an interest in the NFL in Europe. Many Europeans hate anything American. Not saying all, but there is a very large anti-american sentiment over there.

It's a tough sell from a marketing perspective, because what you have are a considerable number of UK fans who have an affiliation to one of 32 teams, so their desire to watch someone else is less consistent. I typically see people waiting for tickets to come up for a game involving 'their' team, although that's not the case for everyone.

I think the anti American idea is maybe a little over stated. We're guilty of mocking other nations, just like anyone else. And nationalist politics are very much in the foreground right now. But I don't think I've heard sometime being vehemently Anti-American for best part of 20 years.

It's a 6 hr flight from San Fran to New York.

Add 50 mins and you can get from NY to London.

Longest flight I could find was London to LA @ 10hrs & 10 mins and that was only 5 mins longer than London to Green Bay.

Which is to say that you are only adding a max of 4 hrs travel.

With creative scheduling, I bet it could be made to work.

Thank you for posting this. Most people don't realize, nobody flies west to east. Every plane from the US flies over the top. I didn't check but my guess is the shortest flight to London might actually be from Minneapolis. Or close to it.

If planes flew directly west to east from NYC they would hit Portugal. Miami west to east and you'd hit Africa.

Not exactly. You go close to the top, but not that close. Because the USA and the UK are actually fairly close, you don't have to fly over the top to get to London. The closest major US city to London is Boston. It is much closer than Seattle and Minneapolis.

If the London Jaguars were in the AFC East, these are the flight distances:

Boston (Patriots) to London - BOS-LHR 3265 miles
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=BOS-LHR

Buffalo (Bills) to London - BUF-LHR 3552 miles
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=BUF-LHR

Newark (Jets) to London - EWR-LHR 3465 miles
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=EWR-LHR

Minneapolis to London - MSP-LHR 4015 miles
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=MSP-LHR

Seattle to London - SEA-LHR 4800 miles
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=SEA-LHR

The longest flight would be 5456 miles. London to Los Angeles.
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=LHR-LAX

Current longest flights for any regular season games:

Seattle to Miami - 2724 miles.
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=SEA-MIA

Boston to San Francisco - 2704 miles.
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=BOS-SFO

Boston to Los Angeles - 2611 miles. (Los Angeles is pretty far East of San Francisco, which makes up for it being further South.)

One thing that you have to take into account is the season and the jet stream. Above are the "Great Circle Routes" which are the shortest routes. Depending on winds, the actual route is usually longer in actual miles. Some seasons, planes fly further North heading East and some seasons they fly further South heading West. I have flown over the lower third of Greenland often when going from the NE USA to London, but I have also flown well South of that. One flight from Rome to Philadelphia, we flew just North of The Azores, which is way South of the normal Great Circle Route.

Did you just equate the UK with the continent?

To quote Mark E. Smith:

"Those continentals are little monkeys".

They need to gather players who lives in their country. I hope the owners of the U.S., is not concerning this bad idea.

There are so many cities in the U.S. that would love to have this franchise.

Forgot about Boston and sure, not exactly over the top. I've flown ORD to Stockholm...London to Newark...DC to Dubai...IAH to Singapore (albeit with one-stop) and an epic 17 hour and 20 minute flight from LAX to Bangkok non-stop. Twice. But I have digressed.

Then its a good thing the UK isn't in Europe.
